Hi guys, this error started off as a BEX error which turned into a AppCrash error after disabling my motherboards extra DEP function.

This only happens after the installation of SP2/Acceleration updates, and is driving my up the wall as I can't find a cure.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: fsx.exe
Application Version: 10.0.61637.0
Application Timestamp: 46fadb14
Fault Module Name: unknown
Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 05cacfeb
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 2057

I have reinstalled and installed several times with UAC on/off, in C: & E: drive, with no difference.
I've checked my .NET frameworks, MSV files which are all correct.
Ran Memtest 86+ and came up with no faults.

IS my only option to format and reinstall (which is a pain in the rear) or am I missing something else?

Hi there!

Is DEP completely turn off? Because that might cause it may cause App crashes. Make sure all the latest Windows and game updates are applied.

DEP cannot be turned off for FSX unless you wish to turn it off for everything VIA command prompt, which I tried and made no difference.
I have the latest everything (apart from a few chipset drivers) and the update for the game that is causing the appcrashes is the latest update sadly.

Yup as far as I'm aware the UIAutocore.dll only fixes menu crashes, I should of mentioned this crashes at startup whilst on the splash screen.

I've tried it in both XP SP3 and Vista Compatibility also in admin mode, the only thing I haven't tried is a windows repair install (probably should of stated I've tried quite abit).

I don't know if a Repair Install would work but one thing you can try is to uninstall FSX using Revo Uninstaller - Advance Mode then let it clean all the registry entries. Then run Ccleaner to remove all the temp files then reboot and reinstall it and see if that works.

I'm starting to think it's my system or more so the O/S, as I've uninstalled the game too many times to count now with ccleaner, reinstalled it with and without UAC/DEP in compatability mode, etc.
Drivers are correct, got the right .NET and MSV versions but just this damn memory access violation code won't go away.
So only thing I havn't done is repaired windows :/

But I'm giving this Revo ago now, if it works you're my hero as it's driving me up the wall after a month of dead end fixes.

Edit:
No luck Jack, I cannot for the life of me think of or find any other causes for this error.

I'm not sure what else to try mate. Since I'm not an expert in Game I'm sure sure what causes to crash the game. We tried the REVO because sometime bad left over files from registry tend to crash the application. The only thing I can think of is if the application puts assembly entries that might mess up. But I'm not sure. Maybe a repair install might fix it or maybe a Clean Install. But it's worth to test it with a different user profile.

I've just found on the cause of the error (or what I believe to be it).
My video driver, on a whim and some advice from someone on a FS forum I reinstalled it the latest (nVidia 320.49 beta) and it works fine as long as I don't reboot/shut down my PC.
As soon as I go through that cycle of reboot and try the game I get the c0000005 error, is there any way to stop this or do I need to reinstall the driver everytime I want to play? As far as I can tell its not corrupted as I don't get this error or any problems on anything else.

I think your best bet would to ask in FSX forums. Maybe one of the players might know about this. But if it's a driver related then do a Driver Cleanup. nVidia Driver Cleanup Guide | Captain Debugger
