i cant get aero enabled on this laptop.

it has the latest drivers, and everything runs fine execpt that.

it tells me that the graphics card is not supported by aero, is there anyway around that?

windows 7 ultimate (7600)

Short answer. No.

Elaboration:
I assume your graphics card is a DX7 or DX8, and doesn't support DX9 and up.
I also assume you do have the Aero theme, but the transparency/translucency doesn't work, right?

I have Win7 running on my Dell D800 and honestly I don't miss the translucency on the window frames.
I have tried a few tweaks for it, but they mess up some features of Win7.

I do have a little tool that makes the taskbar transparent.
You can even control the amount of transparency with a little slider.
Here a screenshot of my desktop:

ScreenCapture.PNG

If you are interested, you can download it here:
Download Transparent TaskBar, Transparent TaskBar 1.0 Download

After download just run the program.
On the right bottom of your screen (just above the clock), you'll see a little rectangle.
In the rectangle is a little slider you can move up and down to control the amount of transparency.

The settings are saved in the registry, so no need for it to load on windows start.
After you are satisfied you can right click and exit the program.
You'll never have to look at it again, unless you want to change the transparency in which case you just start the program again.

Good luck

no it supports DX9. I can play a few low-end DX9 games. DXDIAG says it has 128mb of VRAM (approx 12X mb)

And no it only gives me the basic theme. if i select any aero themes, it just changes the basic.

As far as I know intel 945gma is the minimum to run Aero.

I'll do some more research.

Never mind Ken,

It's not going to work. Not with any driver, nor with any hack.

This is what Intel has stated about the 915 for Vista.

Q3: Is Intel providing WDDM drivers for Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 (Intel GMA 900) on Intel 915 Express chipset-based platforms?

A3: Intel will provide support for WDDM drivers beginning with the Intel® 945 Express chipset family and beyond.
Windows Vista is supported on the Intel® 865G, 915G Express desktop chipsets and 852/855GM mobile chipsets running XPDM (XP Display Driver Model) driver included on the Windows Vista install media.
Windows Vista will install on these platforms, but advanced features such as Windows Aero will not be enabled as XPDM drivers do not support Windows AERO.

Vista has WDDM 1.0., Win7 has WDDM1.1

If Intel didn't even provide a WDDM 1.0, it will certainly not provide a WDDM 1.1

Sorry man,

Greetz
