IE10 won't install and now IE9 won't either

What error message do you get when you try to install the IE10 manually ?

No error message, beyond telling me it failed. It does put a link on the desktop, but nothing on the page applies exactly, though one section did come close. That's where I decided to pursue the Video driver issue. However, I found a 5th computer at that location which does not have the aftermarket card and IE10 fails to install there as well.

I've recommended a reinstall on the computers at that location, in part because they have x86 instead of x64 Windows. Not my stable though, so it's up to someone else in IT to make the call.

I haven't given up, but things here have gotten busy enough to keep me from paying them a visit lately. If I get back over there and find anything else, I'll certainly pass it along.

That's an easy fix in the enterprise environment . Is a reinstall or as they call it a reimage .

Actually, I'm hoping they don't "reimage". Their image is less than optimal. That's why I'd like to see the computers slicked and installed fresh from scratch. They could of course bring it to me. My image for that model is pure, with no vendor junk, though it is based upon the vendor supplied media.

I'm CDO, so I keep things "just so" over here.

I had to look at a previous post to get it; 9C59 is the error code. Lots of hits, but no solutions.

Do what above poster says and also

Run in an elevated command prompt:

For a complete uninstall of internet explorer 10: FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*10.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

For a complete uninstall of internet explorer 9: FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

Run the commands in order from 10 then restart computer, then run the command for 9 and restart. You should then be able to install the preferred version.

FYI to those following this thread;

I haven't been able to get back to that office to look at these again, so nothing new for now. It may be a while before I make it back over there, so one of the other techs will probably pick it back up. I'll try to find out from them what, if anything, they are able to do to correct the issue.

Meanwhile thanks again to those who pitched in with suggestions.

Well I hope you got it fixed. Just an FYI if anyone else has same problem. Here's what I've heard. KB2846071 a cumulative security update marked critical for Windows 7 - IE9 (but is also required for IE10 in Vista & Windows 8 as well) has been causing massive problems across the board if it installs. I say if because in a lot of cases (as in mine) it fails to install. When I attempted to install it manually I couldn't. So I started researching and found dozens of threads
in the Microsoft forums about the various problems.

The only fix is to uninstall this update. In Win 7 You have to check your update history to see if its installed or if it failed. It happened sometime in early - mid July 2013 - usually the 7th-13th.

if it failed or if you uninstalled it there will still be issues such as certain sites will not function properly. So far Microsoft has not come up with a fix or work around. (I don't expect they will for quite at while either) But at least if you uninstall this update it will relieve the inability to install IE10.

actually what I did was I ran the troubleshooter on my computer and it fixed my errors as I was getting Error Code 9C59 and I was able to download and install IE10 without a problem, I had to do a system restore because I accidentally un-installed my touchpad Driver and when I tried to re-install it, it gave me something different, so when I did the restore it took IE11 Developer Preview off my computer as well and I was back on IE9 until I ran the troubleshooter, and there was no hesitation about installing IE10
