Speedtest.net download speed is 3 mbps. The issue is not with the internet as it has been compared to other computers in the house. Fresh install using supplied drivers. Connected using WIFI. Not too far away from internet as my 4 year old laptop gets 3 times faster connection in my room.

Please help - at my wit's end. Custom built a gaming pc and now I can't do anything.

CPU: i5 3470
Mobo: GA Z77n WIFI

What usually works is to connect using a wired connection then go to the Windows Update Center and install all the recent drivers for your new system, this should install the latest driver for the Intel NIC.

If you want the full 300Mbps this NIC is capable of then you will need to use the 802.11N Only setting in your routers set up page, using the mixed modes will slow your connection speed way down to wireless G speeds of 54Mpbs.

Or you could try using the drivers in the link below.

At any rate I would try the Windows Update Center or installing the latest drivers should work.

It also says this in the link...

For those of you who are having issues, as we have stated you can revert back to Microsoft’s own drivers by selecting your Centrino adapter in Device Manager and then uninstalling the driver and selecting the option to remove the driver files too; rebooting your PC should then automatically set you up with stable drivers.

The only other way to get stability is to go to the advanced section of the Centrino adapter in Device Manager and disable the 802.11n mode, something most of us don’t want to do for speed reasons.

Although I would think that changing the router to use the 802.11N Only mode should work with the N mode enabled. Updating the firmware on the router may also help. :)

I was under the impression there is no such thing as "Microsoft's own drivers". Either way I don't think I could use a different driver because my wireless card is built into MoBo: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-Z77N-WIFI (rev. 1.0)

There are Microsoft approved drivers or WHQL drivers and there are the non approved drivers from the manufacture. Yes you can try using different drivers for this Intel NIC although the Windows WHQL drivers usually work best.

You might also try to disable or uninstall the Msoft Virtual WiFi mini port adaptor as it's been known to cause connection problems unless it's set to disallow per the link below.
