Hello all,

My friend is having trouble with her laptop. Specs:

Lenovo Laptop
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
8.0 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
Intel Centrino Wireless N 1000

She has been having issues for the last few days where her computer will lose internet connection. Her other devices such as her iPhone still work properly on the WiFi. Only the laptop is affected. She says it seems to happen after a half hour so of usage. She has to restart to get it to work again.

I used TeamViewer to remote into her computer and looked at it. It didnt look like anything was out of the ordanary. I ran virus and malware scans, ran sfc /scannow to make sure it wasnt Windows corruption. All of those came back fine. I try to update the driver, but the driver installer will show a screen for about 5 seconds, disappear never to be seen again. Which kinda leads into the next problem.

There are certain files and applications that will not execute on her laptop. They will show the error:

<file path> is not a valid Win32 application.

It seems to be random. I can download one file and it will say that, but the next one will be fine. It doesnt seem to have any rhyme or reason to it. Because of this I cant get the drivers to update, so it seems that I will have to fix that issue before anything else.

Any ideas on this one?

The problem might be with the laptop, but the solution might be with the WAP - Wireless Access Point (router?).

You might check to see what channel the WAP is using and if it can be set to use one protocol (as opposed to b/g/n).

See the bottom of this post...

...for info on the Xirrus app.

Once the connectivity issue is resolved, we can look into the file execution (corruption?) issue.
