Hello

Earlier today I managed to forget my computer password after I decided to change every password i had (slightly embarrassed:o)

I started searching the web and found some password recovery tools:

- The first one I tried is called PCUnlocker (did not work)
- The second one I tried is called OphCrack (did not work either)
- The third one actually worked and is called Offline NT Password & Registry Editor

After the tool removed my password I rebooted the computer and thought that everything would be OK. I was wrong:

When I came into the desktop I noticed my internet icon in the bottom right corner was changing from the "red x" to the "blue identifying" icon and back to the "red x" again. And this continuously happens.

What I've done to try and fix it:
- Rebooted the computer
- Restarted the router and modem
- Changing ethernetcable

WHAT HAPPEND? Thanks for answering

Edit:
I have a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller network card, if it makes any difference to my problem.

I've now tried to reinstall the Realtek drivers without any luck.

There's a guy who has a similar problem (http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/ethernet-keeps-disconnecting.170422/) however; his solutions don't work because I can't find PHY listed in properties, only WOL & Shutdown Link Speed

Ninjaedit:
I can't even believe this, but after googling for numerous hours now i found a solution too easy to be true, but it actually worked: http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-100254-network-cable-unplugged-but-isn-t

1.) Shut dowm your PC.
2.) Unplug the power cord.
3.) If you have a laptop, remove the battery as well.
4.) Walk away from the problem for at least 30 minutes.
5.) When you return, reconnect battery and power cord.
5.) Start as usual.
6.) If this solves the problem, take 20 minutes and post this to all of those message boards that you didn't find the solution to.

Check your status led on your network card.

How do I do that? Tried google but....

Do I need to physically open the computer and look at my network card?

Ok, that happens because your NIC doesn't have connection (link) with your switch/router (end device).
Yes try to reinstall your drivers for your NIC.
You can also try to make connection by soft pressing the Ethernet cable to the side with pins/connectors.

Tried to reinstall the latest drivers, did not make any difference..

I have a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller if that makes my problem easier to understand. Something must have happend during one of the password recovery tool attempts.. which means it must be software related, right?

This guy has a similar problem with the same network card: Ethernet keeps disconnecting - TechSpot Forums

However, his solution did not work as I can't find "PHY" listed in properties, only "WOL & Shutdown Link Speed".

Anyone else has a solution i might try?
