Hi,

I've been trying to install Service Pack 1 on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit system for the last week or so without any joy. I have tried numerous solutions from installing all the current windows updates to performing a full system format - all of which have failed. I'll list below the steps i have already performed together with the recent CBS log.

1) Performed a full memory test with memtest68 for approx 5hrs - No errors found!
2) Performed a disk check with Western Digital Life Guard utility and also windows CHKDSK
3) I have run SFC with full administrator privileges and mostly i receive the following message: Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation. I repeat the SFC until no violations have been found.

4) I Have run the system Readiness Tool and also installed the 64 bit KB2454826, KB2533552 & KB2534366
5) I have performed several formats. My system as it stands now is completely bare except several windows updates & the Readiness Tool. No Antivirus is currently installed.
6) I have run the Windows Update Diagnostic which gives me the following errors no matter how many times i run the tool: Windows Update Error 0x80070057 (Not Fixed). Problems installing recent updates (Not fixed). Check for missing or corrupted files (Detected). Some security settings are missing or have been changed (Fixed). Service registration is missing or corrupt (Fixed)

7) I have tried running the SP1 update from Windows Update and receive the following error: 80070017 among others.
8) I have downloaded the full SP1 ISO from the Microsoft website and receive the following error: CRYPT_E_HASH_VALUE (0x80091007) among others.

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated as i am absolutely pulling my hair out!

Cheers,

Jon

Have you tried downloading the Win7 iso that already has SP1 in it? The media refresh I believe it's called.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

No I have not tried the Win7 iso, only the SP1 iso. To be honest I didn't even realise an iso containing SP1 was available for download. I presume I just use my original windows serial key to activate it over the net as normal? I'll see if I can find it and give it a try.

Thank you very much

Jon

I don't know the protocol to safely link to something like this(even though it's perfectly legal) but make sure you get Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 and it's from a legal site.

OK guys here it is....

I have reinstalled windows 7 (again) using the Win7 media refresh iso as suggested. This is a 100% clean install, and yet the first time i run Windows Update i receive the following error: 8024000E :banghead:

Installed updates show the following KB's: KB2534111 & KB976902

I will not attempt anything further until i receive your thoughts.

What do you mean by;

I have reinstalled windows 7 (again) using the Windows 7 media refresh iso as suggested.

What is a media refresh iso?
What Windows 7 are you trying to install?

Please read through the Tutorial again to make sure every thing was done as per Tutorial.

Yes, media refresh is the latest ISO that was suggested that i try installing.

Everything so far seems to be working fine, except windows update. I followed the Tutorial, and i have installed many versions of windows in the past including my current version of Windows 7 Home Premium. However, i have never received these windows update errors until recently which is why i am seeking help. I dont understand why i should be having such problems after a fresh reinstall?

Any ideas would be appreciated

Jon

Thank you derekimo. I learned something new to me at least.
I still don't know how following that Tutorial could cause a error as the OP is getting.
Could you give some guidance.

I have seen where some have did a sfc /scannow to solve this problem but not after a fresh install.

Hi guys,

I'm still having problems with the windows update errors. I used the fix tool as suggested but oddly it found no errors to fix. I then used another update tool that I used previously from the Microsoft website to repair the update components and after a restart I was able to see and download the updates, however, a lot seem to be failing and I have to repair the updates components again to proceed with another batch of updates.

I'm finding this situation very unusual and extremely frustrating since its a fresh install, and probably my 5th attempt. I'm starting to suspect faulty hardware?

Jon
