Win 7 OS not found, repair cannot find partition but upload can

Ok so like the title says I have an OS problem.
When I boot up, I see the asus logo, then have options (it takes longer than normal to get past this)
It then proceeds past the start up screen and then stops and says OS not found.

I uses the win7 disk an changed the bios to load the DVD first. When it finally loaded I clicked repair. It then asks to select the partition. No partition is shown in the white box. However, when I select the second option to load files, it opens into my hard drive and everything I have is there.

So what I need is help to understand why it cannot see the partition for 1 option but the second option allows me to open my hard drive. The PC sees the hard drive so that's not a problem.

Please help as I would like to fix this quickly.

No idea what started the problem as yesterday it worked fine. I shut it off and left.

Work through the steps in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start. As shown Confirm the Active partition then run Startup Repair a few times.

Sometimes if an OS doesn't appear for repair you can force it to show up using the bootrec commands in the step for How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows. Use the System Recovery Options Command Line.

well it could happen if by mistake you have changed the active partition .. system .. partition is the default..
so if U boot with the Windows 7 repair Dvd ..and go to command prompt.. and then type
diskpart

select disk 0 ( mostly its 0 )

list volume (to check for on which volume the label says 'system')

select volume 1 (in my computer..system is on volume 1)

active

exit

exit

and reboot ..then the computer would start normally .. if it doesn't ..do the repair like before ..this time it will find
and list the operating system.. windows 7.. in that box.

Alright. So I tried ur way and I am now in windows. The only problem is that my other partitions are missing. How do I find them? I have volume 2 which is windows but volume 3+4 are not there. It is only showing 150gb of the 500 on the HD

Well .. they might be present there .. but Hidden.. so Maybe U can go to the .. Computer Management..
and Unhide those partitions .. for this ..

Click start button .. right click Computer icon ..then Manage .. it will take you to .. Computer Management..
from there ..select .. Disk Managment .. then it will list all the partitions there ..

Say You find Ur parition .. but it might be hidden.. to unhide this ..select which ever partition interests U..
Right Clik.. Change Drive Letter and Paths.. Add .. and then if automatically it doesn't show a letter.. then U mannually add an alphabet 'can be any like say F' .. ok .. ok (if required)

Then to test whether it worked..close everything and go to my computer (computer).. and then U should be able to see the Drive U just unhid. (you can do this with whatever parition(s) that interest U)

Please post back a screenshot of your full Disk Mgmt drive map and listings using the Snipping Tool in Start Menu.

If the partitions were somehow deleted we can help you recover them with Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard.

There's no step given so far that would cause their loss. Do you remember what it is that you did just before it stopped booting.

Also, what exactly fixed it? Did you merely need to replant the Active flag?
