It is indeed very useful. I will start using it tonight when I go to bed.

Will probably set it to wake from sleep to back up on Sundays at like 2 AM.

Hello LordBob
As to your Tutorial on this issue, I have also made these settings previously and also made a change in the BIOS settings.

In the Gigabyte (on 3 of my desktop computers) in the Advanced Settings, Power Management table I enabled the Power on by Mouse, with double click.

This has made my computers to wake up, even when you click on the Power Switch they won't.

The MOBos are GA-EP45-UD3R, G31M-ES2L and GA-965P-DS3.

The tutorial didn't work for me. I've tried every solution I can find on W7 for my Fujitsu P1620 notebook; works great for my Fujitsu U810 and desktop. My problem seems somewhat unique. With a clean install the P1620 will only come out of sleep once fine then a second time always results in a freeze. After a hard boot, again only one successful sleep recovery cycle then freeze.

From checking the W7 forums I KNOW it is related to USB and ACPI as many others here are having sleep recovery problems. I'm the only one I've found that only has it after one successful sleep recovery cycle. Even though it happens when there is nothing connected to the USB ports the P1620 is somewhat unique in that it has a USB touch screen but so does the U810.

I tried changing advanced power USB settings and everything else recommended but no luck. Sleep works fine in XP and Vista.

This situation may occur when two or more USB-based devices have the same vendor and product identification numbers, and when only one of the devices supports the selective suspend functionality.

I have a Logitech USB keyboard and mouse. I'll check some more settings when I get home because I have never been able to get these functions to work right more than once or twice in a row. I'll try disabling USB devices one at a time and see what happens.

I need the Sleep modes because my build is an HPTC and is normally one 24/7 for recording purposes. Vista worked like a champ. In Win 7 this is the only problem that I am having. I'll also check my driver for the video and BIOS and update as needed.

Intel 945 Express Chipset. 2G mem, Mtron SSD, latest BIOS. Not a problem with either XP or Vista.

I was concentrating on USB; found a newer driver on the Intel site that wasn't on Fujitsu's. Doing a clean W7 install and will give it a shot - thank's for sending me in that direction.

I also found another Fujitsu owner with similar problems that he solved by loading an OLDER BIOS - I'll give that a try if the video driver doesn't do it.

I think I may have beat this problem. I'll know later this evening when the scheduled TV are set to record but a few test yesterday seemed to work.

At the suggestion of one of the guys over at the AVS Forum I was trying out the MCE Standby Tool to try and get around this problem. But it still wasn't working. Then yesterday I read that link here about the multiple USB devices from the same manufacturer and the USB stacking problem or something like that. So when I got home yesterday I took another look with the MCE tool.

I had already unchecked the Network adapter in the USB area but there were still 4 other boxes checked: Keyboard and 3 mouse devices. It was then that I remembered that a few times after the Sleep failures that my diNovo Edge was flashing a red light on the keyboard and I had to remove it and replace it back into the charging cradle to get rid of it. So I figured I remove it from the stack. I also removed 2 of the mouse devices only keeping the last one checked.

After that I followed various suggestions.
- I set all Sleep modes (MCE Tool and all 3 Control Panel/Power settings) to 15 minutes.
- I set hard drive and displays to 13 minutes. I read some where that they should be set at least 2 minutes before the Sleep mode.
- Network Adapter setting to "Allow to go to sleep" or what ever that is.
- Only kept 1 USB device selected in the MCE Standby Tool.

After that I just let teh HTPC sit and the display cut of when it was suppose to. I moved the mouse and it came back on. So I set a TV program to record and it did and the HTPC went into Sleep afterward. I was able to wake it up with the mouse and no crash. So I set it Hibernate and setup 2 TV shows for this evening and went to bed.

I woke up this morning and the light around the volume knob was still on but the system was cold, no fans running. The light turned off while I was getting ready for work so I don't know if something was updating or not. But I'll find out this even when the shows run if everything is working as it should. I'll report back then.

Well, my Sleep issuses seem to be solved. I have successfully put my system to sleep and awaken it without any crashes. :D But now I have to do some tweaking.

When my system woke up to record the shows yesterday I noticed that the wifi couldn't connect. No problem for now I thought. But then a few minutes later the system went back to sleep. I moved the mouse to wake it back up and the recording resumed but there was a gap in the recording. And the second show that was scheduled to start 30 minutes later crapped out after about 14 minutes. SageTV gave me a Tuner card error. So I went back into the MCE Standby Tool and rechecked the Network adapter in the USB section. The system still sleeps/wakes with no problems so far. And the network adapter reconnects upon waking now.

I set up a series of shows to record today all while I'm at work. Starting with 4 shows at once to find out if any of the tuners may need to be rescanned or whatever. Then throughout the day other shows will be recorded. The new TV season is still a couple of weeks away so I still have time to tweak. But at least my system seems to be okay in the sleep/wake area.

Hi all,

I too am having sleep issues with my new gigabyte MA785GM-U2SH m/b. Everytime it resumes it hangs but will then resume normal operation after about 3min. I only figured this out after I got annoyed and walked away and left it for a while.
I have not yet updated bios but will be tonight and see how that goes. Will also look at some of the usb settings mentioned here.
I have tried turning off hybrid sleep and other windows power functions with no success.
This is a totally clean build with nothing but video drivers installed. It does it with both the windows ATI driver and then the latest catalyst drivers.
I have been trying to figure out if its a problem with windows or the ATI drivers but nothing is giving me any hints.
Hopefully if and when it works then maybe I can get some sleep.:sleepy:

Well it is becoming apparent from this thread that although it is a common problem, there is no common solution as it could be one of several hardware conflicts or software settings. Obviously one person's solution might not be the right one for another but I figure I'll post what I think was my problem as it seems to have solved my dilemma and can maybe relate to others.

After trying the various methods previously in the thread I began a simple troubleshoot scheme where I was removing/replacing hardware to see if I could isolate the problem. After swapping keyboards, mouse, etc I decided to look at my HD's seeing as to when I would try to return from sleep mode, the HD light would remain on constantly maybe indicating a problem with one of the drives waking up.

For awhile there I thought it was my Nvidia video card as it's fan would go full 100% and stay there during wake attempt but this is normal behavior for this card as it does this also when you first start up the computer as well and then settles to its normal 40%ish setting. Its a 9800GX2 with latest drivers.

I started by unplugging the SATA cable to my oldest of the 3 drives in which I only use for backup and since then (2 days now) the computer has been sleeping/waking no problem. I have had minor issues with this drive in the past such as Acronis Disk Director (an HD/partitioning tool) not even recognizing it so I though it may be my culprit.

If it at all helps anyone, my problem was intermittent, seemed to happen after longer sleeps, and when attempting to wake, computer would come alive (ie fans and all) but screen would stay blank and HD light would remain solid. Sometimes it would take a couple of hard power cycles to get back since every time I would reset, the computer was still trying to wake from sleep.
