Do you mean this?



If so it's part of the VRM heatsink but is cut down flat. That's where the assist fan blows in.

Well here's mine not so heavy duty and the camera result sucks anyways!

I'll be buying a new GPU and an SSD Drive for OS within 2 months hopefully and other than that i have a plan to get 2x 120mm's Xigmatek Orange Blades with White LEDs Fans for Rear (replacing pre-installed orange fan) and Top, 2x 120mm's White LEDs Fan for Front intake (replacing current Blue CM 120mm's) as the colors scheme is not going well right now

Nice job on the case, Boogie boy. very well done. You'll like the 760. It should play any game with no problems.

The last computer I built I installed the motherboard with the computer standing up. I really had no problems. The only problem, and it wouldn't matter how you had the case, is the I/O plate was padded, which means you have to keep some pressure on the board until you get a couple of screws in. But, I was surprised at how well it went. That was my first try with the puter standing and was expecting it to be difficult, but it was no harder than with it laying down.

Juan, you really are a master of building top notch computers. I'm thoroughly impressed. Just look at the comments that have been made on every one you have shown. I'd be proud of what you call one of your 'botched up' jobs.

Oh same happened to me in the last rig which i was installing in the CM Elite 430 Case and the Backplate of ASUS board was the worst plate i had in life and i also had to put alot of pressure to get the board in the case as well as the case it self had some wierd nut screw surface level that one have to always put pressure and pull with force in order to take the board out. But i love how the ASRock made the plate and the Xigmatek made a great base so i had to put no pressure at all while installing the board and everything except the screws for 120mm fans is alway a hassel!

Now here's something only a dumbass (ME) would do. I had to see what a Saber Tooth looked like with out the armor. Looks rather nice, the PCB material is a dark military OD (olive drab) green.

I temporarily installed the new Xonar Essence STX sound card this afternoon. The card itself is in permanently but I used a stock four pin Molex cable that came with the PSU to route power to the card and didn't bother to hook up the front panel audio cable yet; I'll deal with making a new cable for the PSU and rerouting the front panel audio cable on Monday or Tuesday after I get the pins I ordered (they've been delivered but I haven't gotten around to picking them up yet).

I'm still fooling around with the settings (between Media Monkey, the new sound card, and the new speakers, there are a few dozen possible combinations) but the new sound card is going to be a keeper. Already, the sound is significantly improved over the onboard sound. Tympani now have a nice, natural resonant sound instead of just a thud. I can now hear the bowing on cellos and double basses. The control panel for the sound card is a bit less than intuitive but, between trial and error (mostly the latter) and the instruction manual, I'm slowing sussing it out.

I was hoping for a dynamic compression option but the SVN (Smart Volume Normalization), designed to level volume between various inputs, works somewhat similarly to dynamic compression. The speakers also have a setting that provides some dynamic compression and boosts the treble and bass a bit called Dynamic Pop. I hadn't used it with the onboard sound because I liked the Wide setting better but the new sound card also has a Wide setting so that freed up the Dynamic Pop setting. By combining the two, I get an acceptable amount of dynamic compression. The curious thing is, with the slight bass and treble boost I get from Dyanamic Pop, I can run both of the EQs (Media Monkey and the sound card) flat.

The volume control on the control panel is a weird virtual rotary knob instead of the more traditional slider. It works fine but will take a bit of getting used to.

The only disappointment is the lack of a loudness setting. Even the Realtech onboard sound had one of those. Oh well, one can't have everything. Someone makes a supposedly better driver for the card so I fired off an email to him, asking if it added a loudness setting.

Meanwhile, yesterday picked up a new MoBoard...is not as impressive as some MoBoards around, but i'm sure it will serve me well for few years and please me enough by it specs for everyday life!

Swapped the board (same brand from H77 to Z77) and didn't even have to reinstall my Windows 7 x64, no Sysprep needed! I did only remove all the previous Asus softwares & drivers (some drivers manually), Intel Mei, Reseted the H77 Bios board to default settings, a bit of cleaning in registry aswell, and that's it!


At first start all went smooth and lots of drivers were there already from previous chipset .inf, Cleaned previous H77/C216 install in the Device Manager.

I Just had to reactivate my Windows 7 (3days activation) and update the Wei score after components installed, cool!

The Z77 Plus is a good solid board, you should be able to OC with not too much trouble, you have a good cooler to handle some high temps.
The TPU and EPU switches-yeah leave them both off. They add in what ASUS thinkg are good values but can get your voltages too high.

That's what i though about the switches in particular the TPU one that seems changing the BCLK/PEG Frequency. Looks It have to be used automated first, without settings set in bios for it being able to work, otherwise the computer won't start and giving errors to recall bios.

EPU seems not harm anything. Gotta see what it looks like with Smart Digit+ first, then i'll decide .

Yeah better do manually the settings step by step, i recon.

A little water cooling test, out of the case. An old style Corsair H50 with the stiff tubes, does a nice job.
