VPN desktop shortcut?

I can't find a way to create a desktop shortcut for my VPN. I know how to do it in Vista or XP but I can't find a way in Windows 7.

It's really annoying.

Overall enjoying Windows7 very much on my Dell XPS M1210 with 2GB RAM and GeForce Go 7400.

Probably the best O/S to date from a home user point of you. I've not tested it with roaming profiles etc.. on a domain. Thats when I general fine more problems occur.

IE8 is still very buggy though

I can't believe I can't find a way to create a shortcut!

I also love Win7 but not IE8. It caused great havoc on my WinXP laptop. I didn't have a restore point and it took a long time to get Win XP running right again after uninstalling IE8. I also had trouble with Win 7 getting very buggy after IE8 used. I ended up formatting and reinstalling from scratch. Its better second time around, but IE8 still buggy. At least it doesnt hose the OS the way it did the first go round.

VPN Shortcut

I don't know if this has been answered: In Network and Sharing Center; click "Change adapter settings" on the left. From there you can create a VPN shortcut on your desktop.

Thank you thank you thank you! How stupid of me not to look at 'change adapter settings' to make a shortcut for a virtual connection... yes that makes perfect sense but only to m$.

New twist to shortcut issue

We have about 40 laptops that we want to configured with the same desktop. They will be used out in the field to access out TS through the VPN. When I create a shortcut to the VPN, it only works on the machine that it was created on. How do I create a shortcut that can be used all laptops so they can be controlled centrally.

Small extra to the issue. VPN short cut created but really annoying that the symbol doesn't show any difference when connected or when not. On XP it would show as solid when connected and show transparent when not connected. Just really frustrating but was something they did well that they've overlooked. Seems pointless having the shortcut if you can't tell at an instance whether you're connected or not. Think I'll just have the network connections always open in the control panel and go from there unless there's another solution.

Simple but obscure

Thanks so much for posting this solution. Leave it to Microsoft to make such a simple (and common!) setting so hard to execute. It was so easy in XP and Vista. Why do they do things like this? What can they possibly be thinking? And why don't their help pages even address the issue? Thank heavens for Windows 7 Forum!
