Hello abs4nz absolutely mate the Samsung's in any form are really the best in my view I have them in my machines plus of course other brands but I would go Samsung every time. If you are looking to reinstall try this.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164

You only need the code from the sticker on the bottom of the machine and it will be bloatware free:)

so just for good measure, the samsung 840 pro with sata3 will just plug into the same bay as the hdd ata i have in my laptop? cheers.

Yes mate go for it you will be really happy with theperformance even if the port is 3Gbs - I cannot for the life of me find the specs for that board.
When you install the SSD will be aligned by the OS and you just need to make sure the defrag is off and the TRIM is enabled.
See the tips in this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11728-optimize-windows-7-a.html (point 10) you can at your leisure do the rest as well.
The TRIM http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/70822-ssd-tweaks-optimizations-windows-7-a.html just look for the command prompt instructions. It might be as well to look at setting the BIOS to ACHI too mate.
By the way that was a really super effort with the system specs I wish everyone who posts would do that makes such a difference when answering posts:)

Good stuff mate am so glad it is working well now.

Now to be honest putting a new CPU in for 0.2GHz difference abs4nz I don't think it will make that much difference except that the front bus speed is better. What sort of difference that is going to make I am not sure but if you are happy with the change then go for it. While you are at it you might as well fit another 1GB RAM too that will help things along too.

Now what puzzles me is that you said when the T7800 is available in NZ? because that CPU was released back in '07. I know things over there are very expensive compared to what we pay here so do you have a job getting parts like that??

Sorry, i should be a little more specific in my posts. Lesson learned :D. I'm not quite sure of buying off ebay as returns would be difficult, not to mention expensive. I've allready added the 1GB of RAM to a total of 4GB as you've reccomended. With regard to the T7800, its really a matter of just having my system running at its full potential. 'When the T7800 is available in NZ' means when a used one becomes available on our local auction site Buy online and sell with NZ's #1 auction & classifieds site | Trade Me to be able to return it without spending more than what the chip costs. Also I'd feel more secure buying within NZ. For example, there is a T7800 chip for sale for something like $50 USD from the US. But postage is something like $70 USD. So I will bide my time with a saved search that will alert me via email when it is listed. When you speak about a faster FSB, am I able to go for a chip with a higher FSB, say 1066MHz? I was under the impression that I must keep it at 800MHz. I'm sure it comes down to the motherboard, which I am unable to find the specs for. I've googled the hell out of the board number with no luck. Not that it means I will stop trying, as i'd just like to have a complete knowledge of my system. :D Thanks. ( I will update my system info now )

Yep me too mate it is very frustrating when that happens so have you tried Googling the machine model itself it might throw up some more detail than we have already.

But in any case that front bus speed is going to be governed by the CPU mate it in itself is pretty good at 667 and the other at 800 is better of course but like you say getting hold of that CPU is problematical to say the least. Have you tried any OZ sites yet?

This will give you some idea of what we are dealing with here Front-side bus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So are you saying that MAX FSB isnt governed by chipset, motherboard AND cpu? Ive read that it is. If not I guess I should research better as there's a lot off people who 'think' they know about stuff but don't). Either way, Dell should list upgrade possibilities on there support site, if not actual specs of the motherboard.
