Would you be able to upload an image for a better understanding? Are you stuck on the BIOS password?

Yes.its a bios password. At the press F2 for set up, or F11 for boot up options it asks for the password. It gives me three tries then locks. I can hit the power button off then on again to get to the same sequence. I keep trying different possible passwords but am coming up empty.

Hello Lorawil, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Usually you could turn off the PC, unplug the PC, remove the battery on laptops, remove the CMOS battery on the motherboard, wait about five minutes or so before putting the CMOS battery back, and see.

No. It'll just reset your BIOS settings to defaut and remove the BIOS password.

Absolutely not. The CMOS battery is a battery that just holds a small amount of information for your motherboard. It's a set of instructions that tells the computer whats all there. How much RAM you have, how many hard drives, what kind of processor, is your graphics card there, etc.

It has zero effect on your programs. Unless you have a bios update that goes wrong, but that is irrelevant to your topic.

tl;dr: It won't effect your files :)

Only issue like on one of my lappy's is the CMOS batteries can be in tricky and hard to access locations, on mine it required removing the keyboard and that was easy enough after watching a YouTube video but without that I would have been massively challenged to pry up the top panel and remove that keyboard.

My mom's Toshiba Satellite is right next to the hard drive area, and squished next to the laptop battery. Major pain to remove it, required tweezers and 2 sets of hands :(

Do exactly what Brink suggested . If you don't know how to remove the CMOS battery pack , give me your computer model number so I can find the guide for you and assist you from there.
