But, if I change my page sort to Linear oldest first, the link works properly.

I will NOT use the forum sorted in this manner. If FF can solve the issue, I will switch to FF and keep my preferred sort.

And continue to use permalinks.

Linear - Oldest First
Linear - Newest First
Threaded
Hybrid

Therefore, the Newest posts are at the End of the thread.

Obviously, the URL's 'page_count' and 'msge_nbr' is not recomputed for the 'other' guy,
i.e., the one who uses the other way:

It just plops user at Page 1, FIRST message, period.

Could take a poll, with test URLs from each "sort method".

It doesn't seem to be a problem with the "Permalink" per se.
The "upchucked rule" seems to be:
'It works right IFF if you have the same sort order as the OP, else Page 1'.

Also changing the page length hoses the permalinks. It only works for the default page settings, which is a bummer. Maybe an upgrade is in the works ...
