Latest AV Comparatives results

Panda sure looks good there albeit with a lot of false positives as stated. Kinda want to try it, but isn't it cloud based? I know, I know but I'm still leery of putting my protection "up there". That would account for it being so light though. I've sorta kinda been looking around for a different A/V as I am NOT happy with the Avast changes. Looking at Bit Defender more and more .......... just might take the plunge someday soon.

Have a look at the special on Bit Defender. $55 rebate until Dec 23

Jim

Thanks for the heads up! Bit Defender installed and I couldn't be happier with it so far. (Love your sig. by the way)

Happy to see others using Norton Internet Security here. I've used it for about 8 years I think. The 2004 or 2006 versions and maybe earlier had issued but they've been resolved and is light on resources. With the older versions, and on XP, the PC was nearly useless during a full scan. Not so now.

MSE is in last place of the 22 tested in Dec 2013.

Nice to see Avast! is above AVG and uses much system less resources.

Avira has always been good on detection and system resources but it's missing a lot of key features that's just not acceptable in 2013, no web guard without toolbar, no email scans, no way to turn off notification offers and a really dated interface really hurts it's useability thus why I switched to Avast! as couple years ago.

@ COMPUTIAC

I just turn off all cloud stuff in Avast! including streaming updates and reputable scans, Avast! also adds an Emergency scheduled task that check for updates at each user login and another that runs every 12 hours on top of the 4 hour interval checks Avast! defaults with.

With all that interval and login update checks, Streaming updates can be still useful be not needed IMHO. I also customized Avast!'s installation to not install any of the features besides rescue disk and maybe software updates.

You can customize or disable the Avast! scheduled Emergency update check if you want to, I leave just the login update check with Avast!'s default 4 hour interval check cause I want my virus definitions to be the most update at system startup and every 4 hours for a update check is good enough for me it's still more frequent than Avira's every 6 hours update check.

I have no issues with Avast AIS. I just turn off the streaming and other online BS.

I've used Norton for probably 5 or 6 years and never had any problems with it, but it's bothered me for some time about Norton dropping out of the AV Comparatives testing.
My NIS was due to be renewed so a few days ago I decided to give Kaspersky a shot. The test results reported in AV Comparatives were pretty impressive so we'll see how it goes.
Well mate you will not be disappointed as it cost me $0.13 a day and I have never had anything more than a changing GUI with it over the last four years.
The default settings are good but if you get stuck I usually set mine to high heuristics and I think you will find the safe money a real plus. Just be aware if you set the virtual keyboard it has to be disabled in some programs but it isn't a big deal.

If I were you too I would check the registry in both the HKEY > Software/s to make sure the Norton is completely gone as i have found Symantec still there after using their removal tool.

Britton I'd still be using Norton, but showing good test results in AV Comparison is a confidence builder and I don't understand why Norton doesn't seem to care about that anymore.
Norton always used to do well in those tests, that's why I stayed with them as long as I did.
They need to fix whatever the issue was that caused their split with AV Comparatives and get back into the game.

Well Dallas maybe it has something to do with sponsorship or stuff like that - so I take it you have two machines still?

Thanks ICit2lol, I figured their removal tool would've cleaned up after itself. That's good to know.

I think it was a disagreement they had with the way one specific test was run, it cast a low score to Norton for that one test. I have posed the question on their forum. You may Google it, I'm not allowed to link to it.

I'm sorry ICit2lol, I should've said "that's why I stayed with them as long as I did."
I only run 1 computer which is the one I just switched over to KIS a few days ago.
I just had it built earlier this year, and that's my baby! :D
I still have my old HP in the closet that I don't use anymore that always had Norton software.

I've never had any problems with Norton at all, it just concerns me when every other AV program is involved in the AV Comparatives competition but Norton.
That was the only reason I switched.
