Solved Chrome says I am using unsupported browser (sometimes)

On one site that I visit some links that I open in Chrome (latest version) produce a banner

"You are using an unsupported browser. Some features may not work correctly. Upgrade to a modern browser, such as Google Chrome.Dismiss". And the link (pdf or excel) does not load. I have managed to get the links working by use of a user agent switcher but the banner persists.

That could be related to whatbrowser.org insisting that I am using an old version of Opera. I have never used Opera and there is no sign of its existence anywhere on my system.

Any advice appreciated how to get rid of the banner and the mislead that I am using Opera is appreciated.

Interesting I'm using ie10 and the site said as much, I'm using the current version...
I manually switched to ie10 Compatibility view using F12..
Refreshed the page and it said I was using ie7 with a update your browser message
So it's feeling possibly chrome using the site in compatibility view is about all I can offer,

It's actually a pretty common issue with Internet explorer,
Seems the new version of Chrome doesn't hide comp-view as well as previous versions had ?

If the problem is repeatable, open an Incognito window and see if it still appears

Or, install an extension (irony) to disable all extensions and see if the problem repeats

AAMOI the problem was tracked down to the User Agent having been manually altered, though I as sole user had never knowingly gone that, to a version of Opera.

Someone introduced me to Chrome about:version and Developer mode and I managed to get UA back to what it should be.

Yes Browser mode is User agent string so this makes allot of sense
