Solved So I got my new case that I ordered...

So I got a new case over the weekend.

And I also got a card reader.


The only problem I have is, why is there no 3.5" bay when the case itself advertises itself as having one? How in heck am I supposed to put this card reader in there, without going out and getting an adapter to fit one in there?


What made it worse is, it came with a power supply that didn't have the 8-pin CPU power connector so I had to stick my own PSU in there.

So what's the coincidence? I got it from Wally World. I got the card reader off Newegg.

Many people use card readers. I use mine fairly frequently. Serious photographers may use them daily.

The 3.5 opening on that one 5.25 bay is what they are advertising, the more expensive cases may come with the needed hardware.

Is the reader a usb2 or usb3 header connection, or both?

It connects straight through with a USB 3.0 header. I had virtually no problems with the last case I had.
It is not backwards-compatible with USB 2.0.

There is something else that changed. This case has space to put in 2 x 120mm fans and only 1 x 80mm fan, but for right now, I only have just one of those 120mm fans. So instead of the 2 x 80mm and 1 x 120mm fans that I have, now all I have is this.
Maybe what I should try to do is buy all new fans with headers that plug into the motherboard, but get a fan controller and use that instead.

There are many ways to control your fans. If your mobo supports it, PWM fans connected to the mobo are the simplest. You may or may not have some fan control in BIOS.

There is more user control with the bay fan controllers, they cost more, from $20 for a simple slider/knob, up over $200 for the high end stuff like the Aquaero 6. You have a large assortment in the $50 range with speed control, digital read outs with temps. I've had a AeroCool X-Vision running for about a year now and it's nice lower cost controller. Most controllers work with 3 pin fans so you can save a few bucks on fans vs 4 pin PWM fans.

For the ultimate control the Aquaero 6 is amazing, it has it's own processor, ties in to your system with the usb2 connection and is pretty much unlimited in what it can do. Best with h2o.

So I got my drive bay adapter. Does it matter which kind because they all say it's meant for hard drives.
