Crossfire and motherboard/graphic card compatibility.

I've done a lot of Googling and Ixquicking, even searched AMD's site without much joy. I can't even find out if the mobo is suitable - only having one PCIe x16 slot maybe indicates nope from the off. The following is very specific, but I'm hoping one of you geniuses can offer advice. Apologies in advance for the headache.

Win 7 64 bit.
Motherboard is ECS GeForce6100PM-M2
CPU is AMD Phenom(tm) 9350e Quad-Core
Graphic card is Radeon Sapphire HD 5670 1GB DDR5 PCIe x16
All of which is AMD stuff.

I can buy an adapter to convert the PCIe x4 slot to a flying cabled x16 slot, and which includes a 12V lead.
I can buy an identical graphic card but with less memory (512MB), but same DDR5 for £20, which is pretty cheap.

Any hope in hell of that combination working with Crossfire and showing improvements? I enjoy fiddling, and can afford the £20, but I'll not bother if I get a definite no. I have no idea of the capabilities of the x16 cabled slot from the x4 mobo slot either.

Assuming the mobo, or the x4 to x16 cabling makes it all pointless immediately, would the two cards work in a suitable mobo with 2 PCIe x16 slots. I have read of the 5670 being paired with other cards but not with another 5670 - no examples, I mean, not no success. It's all very confusing.

I'm still searching, by the way, for info elsewhere. I've just spent so long that I thought I'd post this just in case I don't find anything useful elsewhere.

Ta muchly.

Don't like modern jazz, sport, marzipan, noisy pillows, being cold, most TV programmes, Windows 10, unfair division of wealth, toothache, gristle, bears and sharks, and anything that doesn't work.
You can only pair a HD5670 with a HD5670 maybe a 5650 that was like 4+ years ago you could find one on ebay or amazon probably

When mixing and matching cards there is a structure put in place example http://sites.amd.com/PublishingImag.../WebBannerJPEG/AMD_CrossfireX_Chart_1618W.jpg

This tells you what can and can't be matched now if you would like 16x you will need to find a board with multi slots and even if you do it will run 8x not 16x

Hi. Thanks for your hasty, and less than useful response. Did you read all of my post? Is this one of those sites that gives points and chest-puffing titles to those who just answer posts, with any old BS - without any consideration as to the usefulness of that answer? Seems like. Your "sentences" don't even make sense.

"You can only pair a HD5670 with a HD5670 maybe a 5650"
I did say that was my intention. Same card, just less memory. Why repeat what I said, as though it was some kind of point you were making?

"...that was like 4+ years ago you could find one on ebay or amazon probably"
I did say I could get one from one of those - did you not read that bit. Again, you just repeat what I say. And why is "like 4+ years ago" relevant? It's not as though you mentioned a price of 4 years ago, which might have made the comment relevant. Perhaps, "I saw one of these 4 years ago for $100, so that one for £20 is quite a bargain." OR "I saw one of these 4 years ago for $30, so that one you mention isn't that good a deal."

I have seen that chart, but as it was very old and didn't mention my card, I ignored it and asked the question here.

"...now if you would like 16x you will need to find a board with multi slots and even if you do it will run 8x not 16x"
The sentence begins with, "...if you would like...", but then says no, not possible. So why the opening, "if you would like"? Starts off promising something, then says no. The full sentence should say, perhaps, "Unfortunately, a second card in a second PCIe x16 slot can only achieve x8." Though that is also not relevant. I did not ask about speed, I only asked if the combination would work.

Soz, mate, but that was a truly naff response. You told me nothing. How many points toward your next rank title did that waste of time get you? I bet there are thousands who have thought the same reading your responses, but couldn't say it. Learn how to respond both usefully and sensibly. Most forums offer advice about how to post a question, but none offer advice about answering - clearly needed. Consider the above a valuable lesson in communication.

.. your lucky anyone will help if you turn into a keyboard warrior if you dont like the reply given.

im guessing your aim is to achieve higher frame rates in games.. and im going to narrow down COD.. mainly because all cod players tend to be arrogant and up their own arse and are all to quick to start hurling the verbal abuse because they have a higher/better kdr..

while the setup you suggested will work you wont gain any huge performance imcreases as your setup will still run the same amount of vram as your primary card (1gb)

your best bet is but a newer generation card which will probably be a similar price to the card and all the added guff you intend to buy.. unless that is of course you are only wanting a crossfire platform for willy waving purposes.. because dual gpus are sooo much cooler...

btw cheers solar =) not only did I get my daily rant out of the way due to the response of your innocent post you also answered a question with that chart id been wondering!

First off you were the one who asked a question it's nice you are smart enough to answer your own question

Now since you already know it all and my reply was more then useless to you mark this thread as solved as no one else will want to really help someone with your attitude if you didn't notice i was very nice in my reply you come off harsh and with little to no respect good luck on getting anymore help
