Laptop will not wake from sleep

Some background: at the end of January, I came out to San Francisco for a 12-week programming bootcamp. The laptop I owned was falling apart and running excessively loud, so I asked a friend if I could take his old computer with me since he just upgraded to a new one. It is a Fujitsu LifeBook T5010 (Wacom enabled, convertible tablet PC), and I wiped it and installed Windows 7 Enterprise.

It will not wake from sleep. It has been like that ever since the install, and I have tried a bunch of things to fix it. But first, here's what happens. I close the lid, press the power button, or click the sleep button, and the screen will fade and light on the power button will turn off. Then 2 seconds later it will turn back on, the disc drive will start spinning, but the screen stays black. The little light for scroll lock blinks for no apparent reason too. There is nothing that can bring it back other than holding the power button, and starting fresh after Windows yells at me because the device wasn't shut down properly.

Here's some info about my computer. When I run powercfg -devicequery wake_armed, I get a list of nothing. Just a blank output. I think something used to be there, but I disabled them. In device manager, I have looked through all my network devices, bluetooth, USB hubs, and unknown devices, and none of them are allowed to wake the computer. Powercfg lastwake returns "Wake History Count - 0". When I run powercfg -energy, I get 2 errors, one saying that my Generic Bluetooth Adapter is not entering suspend and another saying my USB Root hub isn't entering suspend. Could those be the problem?

Another note, I tried hibernating, and it did the exact same thing. The only difference is that it saved my state when I turned it on after holding the power down.

If anybody has some insight on why this might be happening, that would be awesome. If you think some screenshots or anything would help diagnose this, please let me know. This is a really frustrating problem to have, because it takes forever to get everything I need up and running from a fresh boot up.

Hi, Welcome to forums.

What kind of bluetooth device do you have? I will recommend to upgrade the drivers for bluetooth and USB. Go to device manager and uncheck the option under hardware "let it keep awake".

Hi kyler,

Windows enterprise is normally a corporate license. What ediiton of Windows is on the COA sticker (bottom of machine or under the battery)?

The machine seems to have origianly had Vista Business on it.

Hi, Welcome to forums.

What kind of bluetooth device do you have? I will recommend to upgrade the drivers for bluetooth and USB. Go to device manager and uncheck the option under hardware "let it keep awake".

Can you elaborate on where I might find this option? When I look at the properties for each, I can't find that option or a Hardware section. Under the Power Management tab, there are options to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" which is checked, and "Allow this device to wake the computer" which is greyed out but unchecked.

Yeah it says Vista Business on the bottom. The 7 Enterprise comes from my school. That's the version they distribute to students.

Another little piece of info that may or may not help, here is the output from powercfg -a:
Code:
The following sleep states are available on this system: Standby ( S3 ) Hibernate Hybrid Sleep
The following sleep states are not available on this system:
Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Two things to try (one at a time so you know which one worked or didn't work)
Control Panel -> Power options
Change plan settings of the active plan
Change advanced power settings
PCI express -> Link State Power Management = OFF
OK out of Power options

Not sure if you have to restart, but it is hardware related, so go ahead and restart.

The other suggestion is also is to turn off hibernation, if ther above solved the wake, then you don't need this one.

OPTION ONE, step 2 (disable)

Unfortunately, neither worked. Tried both multiple times after a reboot. The first method would turn the screen off, then immediately all the status lights went off. For the second method, the screen went black, then it took a few seconds to do something (which made me hopeful). But then the lights went off and pressing the power button again led to a fresh boot.

I can't tell. My guess is maybe no, and I'm now realizing that my title may be misleading.

It will turn off (or sleep, I can't tell), then somewhat power back up (I can hear the disc drive spinning, lights coming on), but the screen doesn't come on.

Aha!

That explains the odd behavior a little bit then.

I have to change gears - this might be a GPU driver issue or it might be an LCD hardware issue.
I have to think about this, maybe another member will drop in and ask you to provide configuration or system information.

Changing gears in this old body takes a bit of effort - lots of grinding noises, slippages, etc :)

I'll stop back in a bit to see how you're getting along.

Ah! So this might be something. There is a performance issue that says "Drivers are interfering with Windows resuming from sleep mode." After clicking it, it tells me that it's my Intel Graphics Kernel Mode Driver, igdkmd32.sys. Does that help diagnose the problem?

By GPU driver, is that the one listed under Display in Device Manager? I found that I had a newer version installed than the one listed on Fujitsu's website, but still proceeded to uninstall and install the downloaded driver for that. Unfortunately, I still have the same issues. Is there a different driver I should be working with? Or different place to find a newer version?

Reading your System Specs you have an Intel 4500 GPU .. Which is listed under the Display correct .. Try the Intel Website for the Driver ..
