Hi,

My brandnew laptop just got BSOD recently and the message is DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Could you pls help me to see what happened and how to fix it?

I uploaded the SF file as instructed.

Sincerely,

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

  • Double click to open it.
  • Click this button only:
  • 2012-12-13_224441.jpg
  • If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus, the touchpad driver SynTPEnh and Rainmeter.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
And, Disable USB Selective Suspend too.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

Let us know the results.

Hi,

Thank you for your instruction, I just have a question. If I want to use Daemon Tool again, then what should I do to avoid the BSOD? Do I need to reinstall SPTD?

Sincerely,

You should not want to install Daemon Tools and SPTD again in future. Because that will make your computer BSOD prone.

Then is there any alternative for me? I often use image file that require mounting software.

All the disc image emaluators are subject to cause BSODs. So I cannot recommend any of them.

Programs like 7-Zip (free) or Winrar (paid, but not costly) can extract any disc image. So the basic job will be done similarly using any of them.
