You wouldn't install to UEFI with an Active partition, so just proceed with the steps given in post #42 to try another Legacy BIOS install now that you're following the steps closely. Make doubly sure you're not missing a single step or sub-step.

If that fails then try UEFI install, booting into UEFI DVD choice to proceed as shown in UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums.
Make sure you delete all partitions to create/format New as shown.

The DVD is left inside, not removed.

Issue sorted, grabbed a copy of Windows 7 from a friend and followed gregs steps and voila! it works perfectly.

As a reminder, if you'll stick with the tools and methods given in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 then you'll keep a perfect install for as long as you do. These are based on what works best in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here.

I have a Samsung book 8 ultrabook. It started with win 8. I imaged it onto a Samsung 256 ssd. Icant stand win8 so im getting around to converting to win 7 pro.(( the disk is an oem for " use on refurbs.)) first I tried creating new pattition to dual boot then dumped second partion. To install over win 8..im condensing time and actions. Then I repartitioned whole machine to fresh install win 7. I cannot get it installed I have multiple problems. Closest I get..all files copied and it starts to uncompress files and reboots. I even lose bios recognizing anything but a usb in usb ports and when I try to change boot order with dvd plugged in, nothing is listed in bios....grrrrrrrrrr

How did you prepare stick exactly?...secure boot is now disabled but i tried it enabled.also. Uefi is selected as OS mode. Not csm or acombo of two I haveno legacy choice

you really helped me solve a windows 8 issue

I spent a week trying to get my Windows 8 to boot after installing Ubuntu as a dual boot.

I then only had Ubuntu and finally nothing at all.

Then I found your post.

I could get to the command line by using the recovery disc and then used your code

I changed the line "convert MBR" to "convert GPT" and I could easily reboot off the recovery disc

None of the other informed post had that code.

I changed convert mbr to convert gpt and it worked like a charm (no pun intended) in windows 8.
I could then install from my recovery disc
I spent a week trying all other solutions on the forums until I found yours and such a simple fix

The command to Convert MBR in the steps earlier is only to Bypass UEFI to Install WIn7.

If you use Convert GPT it is to convert an already MBR disk to do a UEFI install which can only be done to a GPT formatted disk. Those steps are in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...e-firmware-interface-install-windows-7-a.html.

Note that to install to UEFI with a flash stick the stick must be formatted using Option One in UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows to automatically edit a file which can be easily messed up if done manually.

I was halfasleep, doing this as a side job for a friend who had picked up a virus and had trouble navigating win 8, they asked for win 7 and yours was the only clear and exact method for doing this, I could not find much about the GPT format until google brought me to you, I followed your steps exactly and I had no issues, thanks again, and again!!!

Hello and welcome luckguy I don't know what the go is now but I upgraded my 7 to 8 then the 8.1 was a free upgrade for the 8. See this might help.
