Is it possible to put space restrictions on backups that windows runs?

I currently run backups every night and have the files sent to a SAMBA share. Is it possible to have windows automatically delete old backups when X amount of space is used up by the backups?

I'm using Windows 7 Professional.

Hello Andrew,

Do you have a system image included to be created with the Windows Backup schedule?

For Windows Backup of your selected folders alone, these are incremental backups, and will stay saved until you run out of hard drive space. Windows Backup will them automatically delete the oldest backup to make room for a new one.

You can also delete any Windows Backups when you like as well.

Hope this helps for now, :)

this is just a few folders and location, like the desktop and my documents.

I guess I'll have to manually delete the older backups.

In that case, yep.

Since this is an incremental backup, backups will only be created if there were changes made since the last backup. This helps to save space, so hopefully you won't have to manually delete older backups to often.

how often does it do full backups?

I've noticed some backup sets will go for a few weeks with incrementals and then do a full.

That's the catch. It says Windows Backup will create a new full backup periodically, but no exact time frame.
