Hibernation - very slow shut down

Greetings.
my Windows 7 x64 is after one week beginning to slow down when I choose to let it hibernate. I have tried to use your guide to shut Windows down, but that does not seems to help on the hibernation. The real "Shut Down" is OK speed, but it seems like "something" holding it back when hibernating.
The screen goes black after 2-3 seconds, but after that the HDD lamp is blinking in a slow uneven rate for up to 60 seconds before it starts to light fully up for about 5 seconds, and then the PC is cutting power.

How to find the reason for the (about) 60 seconds where it seems to do nothing?

Usually anti-malware/antivirus/antispyware protection is the cause for this. Try disabling any protection software you have, and see if hibernation is quicker.

Another possibility is a program is trying to do something when you go to hibernate and is slowing the process down. For example a virus scan or windows updates.

How slow is slow?

Hibernation takes about 20 seconds on my pc, depending on how many programs I have open.

When the system goes into hibernation, it must copy the system state to the hard drive and this takes time depending on the speed of the processor, amount of RAM and what it has to save.

Your time does not seem abnormal to me.

It is 8 Gbyte ram that needs write to an SSD, that does not take up to 60 seconds to do that From a clean desktop, with only some small programs running (f.i. Logitech mouseprogram), but no big programs running at all.


I have now tried to disable my BitDefender, and it seems a little bit quicker, but still it takes forever (last test 40 seconds) before starting to write to the SSD.

Is it possible to read a log or other about windows in this hibernation shut-down state?

Yes take a look at event viewer application and system logs.

How to seperate "hibernation shut down" from all other info?

I "might" have found part of my problem using logs --- LOGITECH ---. Can it be true, that Logitech driver for mouse and G25 wheel is causing this?? Seems to me to be fubar, but it helps shutting down these drivers/programs before hibernating.
Does Logitech not know how to build a driver for hibernating?
Or is it an "USB 2/3 driver" problem on my Z77 Intel chipset?
Can I install the newer driver ( USB3.0) from Intel to my MSI Z77 -GD65 mobo instead of the driver from MSI? I'm unsure of this, because I'm also using USB 3 to a "HDD-backup drive", and I need this to be as reliable as possible.

Turn off everything freeloading at Startup except your AV in msconfig>Startup and >Services after Hiding All MS Services. Nothing needs to start with Windows except your AV. If you miss something that much (like a Messenger) go back into its Preferences and turn it on at Startup.

AVG caused a startup issue on my PC, on October 13th 2011 (as shown in the gif).

If there are shutdown problems (e.g. obsolete drivers still running) there should be an entry relating to them in Performance Issues (see the last 3 frames).

Have tried the sequence now, but windows claims there are nothing wrong, as seen in this picture (the text is Danish)

About Startup programs. It is not a "start-issue", it is only a "hibernation-issue", not even a "shut-down" issue. My PC can now shut down about 4-5 times quicker than it can hibernate.

For startup I have BitDefender Total Security and my Logitech driver for my G15 keyboard and MSI Afterburner loaded. That's it.

The issue with having a bunch of freeloaders starting up on Win7's back is not a startup issue, it is the interference they cause with performance. I suggested establishing a Clean Boot because it works for resolving many performance problems and not to give you a faster boot.

I will not call that "a bunch of freeloaders".

Again, when selecting Hibernation, the screen goes black after 2-3 seconds, and then nothing seems to happen for the next 25-60 seconds (it varys from time to time), and then about 4 seconds with SSD-activity. then power off.

Found a solution ... I don't use hibernation any more. Shut down and Boot time is, at my PC, much faster

Hibernation should work perfectly in Win7, so something is interfering with it. You might try turning off everything at startup long enough to see if one of those is the cause.
