How do I decrease it ?
Of all the PCs I have seen, mine seems to be the highest. Generally it is around 800mb to 1.3gb on average IMO.
I have checked Task manager and no program is using this much ram ? So what's eating it so much ?

I wouldn't consider 800Mb to 1.3 GB RAM usage on startup with a 64 bit OS as either unusual or abnormal. I wouldn't be concerned.

Adding up the items in the memory usage column rarely provides meaningful results. The default numbers do not show full usage of the process and there are very significant users of memory that are not processes.

Memory usage in any modern OS is highly dynamic. The memory manager will always try to assign memory where it will do the most good to maximize performance. It will always try to find some use for as much memory as possible. Unused memory is wasted memory. Memory usage at bootup may seem high but that is only because there is currently no better use for it. Starting a large application will result in this usage being trimmed back as needed, drastically if necessary.

You could post a screenshot of Task Manager - Performance tab but I really don't think anything is wrong.

That's totally normal, I have windows 7 64bit and on startup the RAM usage is around 1.5GB out of 16GB. If it really does bother you, you could swap out your 2x 2GB sticks and put it 2x 4GB sticks as your motherboard only has 2 memory slots

Sorry I wasn't clear. 800mb to 1.3gb is for the pc's I see day to day, but mine has 1.7-1.9gb at startup

RAM is so costly these days. Plus there are more important things in my buy-list :geek:

Mem used at idle is effected by what programs are running in the back ground. Right now I'm at 2.34 used with just Firefox running.

For me it is 2.6gb with firefox using 1.2gb, so that makes that 'idle' 1.4gb ....maybe there is no problem after all

I've always thought RAM was quite cheap tbh :p on my old build I picked up a 2x 4gb sticks at 1333mhz for about £45, but that was last year and now the price for the same product is about £60:shock: Not sure how much that would be in rupees, though
