explorer.exe crashes when i open certain .mkv video folder

recently i downloaded a .mkv video and put it into a specific folder. but when i try to open that folder, my windows explorer crashes. anyone knows what happened?

The problem is with the extension, not Explorer. I would check for an update or a newer version. Perhaps you didn't install required codecs.

i've installed the latest K-Lite Codec? Is the problem in that codec?

I don't have experience with ITP or K-Lite. I would follow the install instructions provided by the software maker or provider. I'll ask for an assist and see if someone else is familiar with the software.

Addition: I found this on the 0xFD bugcheck code.

This bug check usually occurs because the component that owns the modified non-writeable pages failed to write out these pages after marking the relevant files as "do not write" to memory management. This indicates a driver bug.

My guess would be that the WMP crashed. Try to open it with VLC and see what happens.

That looks like what it is blaming to me.

Try deactivating the .Mkv in Icaros see if it helps.

It's the thumbnails that are crashing Explorer, if you set it to details it will not crash. Since Icaros is the faulting item, I believe Derek is correct. A Guy

It can be played through task manager and it does fine. But the problem is when i open the folder explorer. exe crashed.. Thanks btw..

K-lite and some other codec packs (latest or earlier) causes mkv thumbnail generation failure and results in explorer crash.

If you want thumbnails, use Standard Codecs for Windows 7 and Windows 8 .... but the best is to forget about the thumbnail and play mkv using VLC media player.

I've tried all above and it still the same. I think the problem is on the video... 'Cause when i open other video folder it just fine..

Yes, a corrupt video (or any other file) also can cause the problem. If you already tried the possible alternatives, it will be the best to get rid of the failing video.

If the video is unique and very important, You may re encode it from the scratch.

I also use Icaros and play all .mkv videos with VLC, which has all needed codec built-in. I have found codec pack cause more issues than being helpful.

You can try a new download for the problem video or convert it to .mp4, or even .mkv with Handbrake. HandBrake - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Gary is right. Converting to the same codec often removes the corruption. Freemake is another opion.
