Mozilla Introduces Firefox 29 the Most Customizable Ever

I'm finding Firefox a little sluggish with age. Someone I know uses Chrome and it appears more responsive.

I've just got round to upgrading and I must say this version seems much snappier. My last install did seem a bit sluggish and I was constantly getting my activity circle spinning while using it the last few days. That's now gone and pages are loading instantly, I'm very pleased with it.

Technically, it is quicker and more responsive. Every damn update they move the buttons.

I really do wish that Mozilla would stop and realise that maybe some of us are running FF because we don't like Chrome. I know it's just a UI thing, but honestly I have always really disliked chrome. I'm seriously considering jumping ship to Opera, unfortunately my add-ons are things I cannot live without.

I've never used Chrome, in fact I've exclusively used Firefox for around the last seven years or so, so every update is just something new to me and I have nothing to compare it to. Either way it's better looking than IE!

I had to install Classic Theme Restorer to even give me basic options under customization, and I had to manually update Adblock Plus to get the icon to display in the menu bar properly. Even at that I can't remove the reload button from the URL bar, so I'm going to click it by accident every time I try to click the drop down arrow, just like I used to with that stupid bookmark star they used to have.

I'm sorely tempted to roll back to the last version I was using.

most customizable firefox ever. OMFG i laughed soooooo hard i just about pee'd my pants. from everything i have read one by one the addons we have grown to enjoy will did under the new firefox australis engine. this is exactly why i'm grateful that cyberfox will not be porting to the new engine.

How's this for a lean, mean browser look? After years of toolbars & buttons galore, I went minimalistic with Firefox 29. I was able to make some buttons/icons invisible, and put a translucent overlay on the URL and search bars. The download arrow hidden until there is actually a file downloading... then it pops out at the top left corner.

it's crome is what it is. it's no longer firefox.

pale moon is still on firefox 24, that makes it a security risk. try cyberfox it's upto date and will not be switching to the australis engine.

Okay, just for laughs, I updated.
The area in red - the Menu Bar - was what I was most concerned about losing.
Since the Menu Bar is still available to me, I have very few complaints.
I didn't even need Classic Theme Restorer!

I switched to FF in the wake of IE red alert from Homeland security and liked it instantly. Today I up-dated to FF 29...and like it even more. That's what upgrade should be...better. FF 29 is better than 28 version.

Personally, the UI is not that bad, I tested since the betas and I liked that zoom options now are very handy... but is just matter of tastes.
What it really stands out is that firefox is way faster than v28, I really like its speed.

Current Opera and Chrome are using the same engine :shock: I'm still on 12.17. A Guy

I like FF29 so far, working good.
I had to change a few buttons around to get it how I like, also had to get an add-on to get the Bookmark Sidebar back to "Just clicking" one button.

Only issue so far is sometimes after I close FF the Process stays on, so when I go to open it again it says "Already Running" and I have to kill it in Task Manger before it will start again.

Those of you who dislike australis may want to try Pale Moon or Cyberfox. I use Pale Moon, but Cyberfox seems like a good alternative too, but I've never used it. Or you can use the ESR version of firefox or classic theme restorer add-on on the new FF29. I should mention that ESR is not quite up-to date compared to Pale Moon because the dev. of Pale Moon has implemented security features not found on the regular version 24, so PM is actually more secure than maybe even FF29 and ESR 24.

As you can see, there are a couple paths you can take to avoid australis, but staying on v.28 is not.. advised.

The bug where the browser switches back to another window if you open a video in a new window is still present. Nice to see they don't care to fix this.

I had to change a few buttons around to get it how I like...

If only I could rearrange the main nav buttons to be Back - Forward - Stop/Reload - Home, give them some contrasting color, and get rid of that stupid "hamburger" button on the far right, I'd be satisfied.
