Solved Formatted hard drive, reinstalled windows 7, can't activate

Hi,

I recently had to reinstall Windows Home Premium 64 bit on my Dell XPS 15z. In so doing I formatted the hard drive. Now when I try to activate using my product key, I get error code 0xc004e003. Can anyone tell me why this is happening, and how I can go about activating?

edit: For further clarification, I reinstalled Windows 7 using this guide and the Digital River download of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Welcome to the forums, can you tell the experts where you got your product key from ? Did you format the whole drive including the recovery partitions ?

Yes welcome mate and as Joan says where did the media come from if it came from somewhere like EBay then you probably have a lemon if it is a new OEM or retail disk from Microsoft then it could be bad.
If you have the original activation code / key for the original installation you can use this and it should be on the sticker on the machine somewhere.
