USB Intermittent Drop Out - Not Power Related

Hi all,
I found this forum looking for an answer to my USBs randomly cutting out, so I apologise my first post is a cry for help.

I have a Samsung np530u3c-a01uk series 5 laptop running windows 7 64 bit.

The problem I'm having is with the USB ports. I have 2 USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port. I have noticed that when turning on the laptop it can take up to a minute for a usb mouse to be recognised, and once recognised it will randomly lose connection and regain connection. More annoying for my self is that I also dj from my laptop, and I use a Behringer MM-1 which has in it a powered USB hub. After half an hour or so's use this also stops working. What is bizarre though is that all the lights on the dj controller still light up AND the sound card that is plugged into the 4 port hub on the back of the controller continues to provide sound to my amp, BUT the controller no longer gives any signals/commands to the computer until I unplug it, close my dj software, and plug the controller back in.

I have read that a lot of USB issues are around power, but clearly using only one usb mouse, or a controller with a hub and it's own power supply should cause any drain on the usb ports. I have also gone into device manager and unticked the power saving option under "usb generic hub" AND under the power options in control panel, I have disabled the USB power management options. Neither of these workarounds has helped.

I am currently using the USB 3.0 port and for 5 minutes at least, there has been no cut out with the mouse (unfortunately I haven't got the USB hub/dj controller here to test).

So.... Am I left with two duff USB ports? If I uninstall "generic USB hub" from device manager, will it just reinstall without issue? Is it worth doing? Any other ideas?

Any help would be great. Many thanks for reading.

Thanks for coming back so quickly! I'm just at work but when I get back I'll give it a shot.

I also found this post on here when I was mooching last night: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/165554-usb-driver-general-fix-problems.html

I might try that out too.

Again, thanks for coming back to me, and I'll post what I find later tonight.

EDIT: I have already updates the chipset and USB 3 drivers. Can't see an upgrade to the Generic USB hub drivers though.

You can try uninstalling Generic USB hub and deleting Drivers too. Upon reboot manually dun Windows Update and you should get them back.
Running through the steps in the tutorial you found fixes many USB problems.

It could also be a power issue, if the port you have the self-powered hub plugged into loses its power the hub won't work.

I've run chkdsk and scannow and no issues.

I'm going to try the USB tutorial next and see if that clears it. If not could it really be a power issue? I guess on a laptop there's no cure but a new laptop??? That would suck.

No mate just test the adaptor for volts even and also check out the battery. You could even try it with the battery out and on the adaptor alone.

did you run those malware scans and if not try them and thee is this Free Anti-Malware Download | Emsisoft Anti-Malware, Online Armor Firewall, Mamutu Behavior Blocker try the first and second scanners.

Plus it might be worth running this Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 make a bootable disk and run it from power on. It doesn't take long and at least we can eliminate these things.

Followed this and only deleted the greyed out icons as it suggests. Plugged back in USB devices but problem persists.

Dammit. Is it actually the power on the mobo?

Same error just happened through the DJ controller on the USB 3 port. I was hoping it was just a USB 2 issue.... I'd be thinking it was an issue with the controller if I wasn't having problems with my Razor mouse too.

Isn't the KIS Rescue Disk for a non-booting system?
By non booting system I take it you mean it has an OS on it but will not boot to it whatever that OS is. I have tried it on both a non booter - one with Windows already on it but is not booting to Windows, and one that is booting to Windows (with problems) and it worked both times .
I am just under the impression that as long as you can set the BIOS to what boot format the rescue software is on - it will boot and scour the system from the every beginning.
But I stand to be corrected:)

So are we thinking this is a virus, or is this just to eliminate the possibility?

Would be worth getting Ubuntu onto a USB, booting from that, and testing the mouse with it in there?
