I have a Toshiba Canvio Connect External 500GB USB 3.0, model V73600-A.
It works fine connected to my Windows 7 desktop via USB 3.0 and even USB 2.0 ports. It also works fine on a 2010 Samsung laptop running Windows 7 with USB 2.0 ports. But for some reason, on my MSI FX610 laptop running Windows 7 also with USB 2.0 ports, I continue to get an error when I connect the drive.
The error complains that it can't install the driver for it and under Device Manager, Canvio drive, it says "The device cannot start error (10)"
I thought it may be power related so I connected it to a powered hub (5v 2amps) but the same issue. I rebooted, ran sfc, removed/reinstalled all my USB components in DM, but still the same issue.
I did determine that the BIOS detects it and this is without the powered hub. Also, my EaseUS Backup disc also detected it, which is great, because backing up my system was my main reason for needing it to work on this laptop. So currently my system is backing up to the drive as I type this, but I'm still curious why this drive refuses to install on this particular laptop. There are no drivers available on the Toshiba website because it suppose to use the generic drivers provided by Windows as the other computers did without an issue.
