Bad off topic I know so back to topic, yeah it seems to be still running just fine, it would just be nice to have a bit more space. 240/256GB seem to be pretty cheap now so I can see that being an upgrade in the not so distant future

840 Evo for the Laptop (Asus k53e w/i5)
I did a fresh install of 7 not a clone from the 5400.

Is the partition perhaps just misaligned? Had a similar story when I got my M500 installed, switching back to AHCI SATA mode and aligning the partition to 1024k sorted it out beautifully.

I would think 7 should handle that upon installation. Unless I'm not reading the data diskpart shows correctly.

Edit; I used the magician & changed optimization with these results;

Your alignment is OK Fantail. A fresh w7 install will align a SSD properly, a clone from a HDD I don't think will though. A Macrium image restore can also do the alignment job.

...provided the partion that was imaged was aligned before. If that partition was sourced from a HDD, the image is most likely not aligned.

Numbers indicative of an Intel 335, I got about a month ago for apps, running on a SATA II mobo. Since the system does what I want it to, won't be upgrading the mobo simply to get full performance from the drive.

I would not bother upgrading the mobo. The access times will most likely not change and the data transfer rates are of a lesser importance. The difference would only show in the measurements but have very little impact on real life performance.

Precisely. I don't expect to be building a second system or upgrading this one for some time as it is all I need.

Hum I think I might have a problem and I know this is probably not the place to post this but my SSD has slowed but if you look at the two speed tests in the pics there is a noticeable difference which I have no answer for.

I think it's fine John and the difference attributed to the data each program uses for their tests. Here is mine for a 840 Pro with Rapid Mode enabled.
It's the access time that's important, and yours is less than 0.1ms, so that's very good.

(BTW, I think if you click on "Sprache" is AS SSD you can change it to display English.)

The only two apps I've used to check drive speed is HD Tune and AS SSD, so I can't really compare them to Samsung Magician. But this does make me wonder which of all these benchmarks we can/should actually trust...

Gary is right. Only if you compare measurements with the same program you will get an apples to apples comparison. Different programs can show widely different results.
