Help getting rid of Windows 7 Media Center Virus

Help! All exe files have a Windows Media file extension. All files opens to Window Media Center Home page & locks. Can't access the internet to download any anti-virus programs. Also unable to access internet in safe mode . Desperate! What can I do

The virus has totally locked my computer. I'm unable to access internet even in safe mode. Therefore I can't access the link you provided. I desperately need help!!

This is the only thing that worked for me...

On a working computer download this file to a flash drive. http://www.sevenforums.com/attachme...ile-type-associations-restore-default_exe.reg
Put flash drive in the broken computer, start -> computer -> flash drive. Right click the file (Default_EXE.reg) and click 'Merge'
After this it should work normally. You should also run an antivirus/malware scan as .exe association errors are commonly caused by malware.
EDIT - you may have to restart for the fix to take effect.

Done!!

It worked!!

Thank you so much for posting the details that worked for you. My son's computer was driving me insane and every other post I read had the same suggestion for removing the WMC. I used the flash drive link and it fixed the problem. Yeah!!!
