i'm going to try to be as not-vague as possible..

installing a new hard drive for my in-laws.

i get a "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer" error shortly after the first reboot and the setup changes the resolution to my LCD native resolution.

I KNOW it runs windows 7 because it is still on the hard drive i removed.

its a HP Compaq dc7600 mini-tower.

i can confirm that the issue happens with both 32bit and 64bit versions of windows 7

i have tried every driver i could find for an 82801G / ICH7 IDE controller as well as NM10 / ICH7 sata controller including a few different revisions from the Intel website.

the boot drive i removed was an IDE drive so i'm convinced my issue is driver related to the SATA controller.

if you need any further information please do hesitate to ask

Hi!

Put the harddrive on the computer where it was running fine and..
Try to do a sysprep on the other computer (where it was running fine).. in sysprep..select generalize..and then put the
hard drive back into ur in laws computer and then hopefully it will work.

PS this won't work with oems

the only way i could make a system image is over the network (60gb)... and it wont let me re-instate the image... i connect to my share, select the back up, set the volumes, OK... and i just get this error straight away

The system image restore failed

btw its just 20gb?

it turns out the 80gb sata drive is the boot drive.. :\

well you should image the partition after minimizing its size.. in computer management.

so shrink the partition for the original drive? do i need to make the partitions of the destination drive the same
