Windows explorer crashing in infinite loop

Hi
I've been getting an error message: "Microsoft Explorer has stopped working" followed by "Microsoft Explorer is restarting". This happens repeatedly. Running Windows 7 build 7601 Service Pack 1. This happens in all versions of safe mode as well as the normal start.

I ran sfc /scannow and got a long series of error messages - I can post them if useful.

I don't have the original installation disc.

I tried system restore from the command prompt and it said that it couldn't find a previous restore point.

Any help would be most gratefully received!

Welcome to the Forum richardjdixon,

Yes, please post the error messages from the SFC scans. I will call a friend to take a look at it.

You could have a read through this tutorial.

Also upload your msinfo file.

MSINFO32:
  • Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
  • Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
  • Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

Sure.

I Spammed chrome (You can use any browser) in the taskbar. After multiple attempts it opened. I put this 'file:///C:/windows/System32/cmd.exe' In the address bar and opened it. I typed in 'cd c:\' then 'diskmgmt.msc' which ran 'Disk Management'
I partitioned the harddrive (look it up). I downloaded a product key finder (since I was unsure of what it was) Here. After taking note I shut down my computer.
On a different pc I downloaded the right .ISO Here. I used This tool to
put the ISO on my USB. After that had finished I plug the USB from my other pc to the broken pc. I booted up the broken one off my USB by holding down f12 on startup. I installed windows on my partitioned harddrive and I had a clean windows. I could access the other section of the harddrive in 'MY Computer' I dragged and dropped all of my old documents and programs that I needed then deleted the partition in 'Disk Management' and changed all my setting back to the way they were.

Hope this helps somebody with the same issue. There may be simpler ways of fixing the computer but after hours of work this was the only solution I could find.
