Try Partition Wizard 8.1.1 instead. It's preferable to Partition Magic.

Free download Magic Partition Manager Software, partition magic alternative, free partition magic, partition magic Windows 7 and server partition software - Partition Wizard Online

Don't try to recover files first. You'll need to try to recover the partition.

I'm not an expert on it, so wait for more comments.

But you can at least try to do a scan with Partition Wizard while you wait.

Don't write anything else to that partition.

If you can't recover the partition, then you'll have to try to recover the files, but concentrate on the partition for now.

Do you remember how many partitions have had in that second disk ?.

"Partition Wizard" came with a function to search for lost partitions. Please read the guide from the below link and perform a "Quick Scan".

Recover files by partition recovery with partition magic - MiniTool Partition Wizard.

At the end of scanning, a list of found partitions will be displayed. Use "Windows Snipping Tool" to capture a screen shot and post with the next reply.

Also it will be helpful if you can shred some light on how exactly the partition corruption happened ( Sudden power failure, removed the disk without safely ejecting, partition splitting failed etc ).

You haven't lost the partition, it just doesn't have a drive letter. In Start type diskmgmt.msc and in the panel that opens right click the third partition, the yellow one in your pic, and click Change Drive Letter and Paths. Click Change and give the drive the next available letter, confirm and out. The drive should now be visible in My Computer.

BJB probably has the best solution to try first.
Add a drive letter to the partition.

Nice catch BJB - all of us missed the fact. :o

I struck my response in favor of BJB.

Everyone else is obviously of the view that the missing 'partition' is actually the second hard disk showing as unallocated. It may be, or it may be the third 146GB partition on the first hard disk. As that partition has no drive letter it won't appear in Computer and might cause the OP to believe it has been lost. So before attempting to recover partitions, which is not without risk, I still advocate giving that partition a drive letter as a first step.

@BJB

Looks like you are right. OP is talking about second partition and not second disk.

Wiping the egg off my face....

The partition (not disk) in question is quite full at 94% used - that might have been the cause of losing the drive letter. Not sure what caused it, but when you regain access to the volume, I suggest you clean it up a bit. Some utilities don't run well under 15% free space.
