ISO files of games not working

For Windows 7 forget daemon tools --use alcohol 52% for mounting Virtual CD's and DVD's.

Note most commercial movie and probably gaming DVD ISO's are usually encrypted to some extent and movie DVD's usually have regional encoding in them too -- to make an encryption free plus region free .ISO copy use something like slysoft's AnyDVD -- and THEN mount your ISO. So create the decrypted de regionalized DVD copy with AnyDVD and THEN mount the ISO. It should work properly at this stage.

(Note Windows 8 has native ISO mounting so you don't need a 3rd party solution for mounting Virtual .ISO's. A Virtual machine can also handle a Virtual ISO too).

AnyDVD is a perfectly legitimate commercial product so AFAIK it's not against the Forum rules to mention it here. It certainly isn't illegal to purchase and use this software in Iceland, Belgium, France, Germany, UK and Holland as far as I know so it's probably OK everywhere else too.

Alcohol causes as many BSODs as DaemonTools.

AnyDVD is for movie discs it seems. The OP is dealing with game discs.

I have personally used MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM successfully for mounting disc images.

1. I use Daemon Tools Pro and PowerISO. Neither of which have affected my computer in a negative way, nor have I ever heard of them doing so, so that's weird of some of you to say. At least to myself.

2. If mounting doesn't seem to work for you. Use a program like PowerISO to access the image. If you extract the files to a folder and run the setup it should read the data.cab(s), at which point the games should work (in theory).

Of course running it from a folder doesn't work, it checks to see if the disk drive is there, and has the game in it, and then pulls the files from there. The problem is that the games require the disc for both installation and playing
