Not sure if I am in Audit Mode in Sysprep

I just completed an entire Windows 7 installation (this will be my master image) using an answer file, and in the answer file I have it as <Reseal><Mode>Audit</Mode></Reseal> under the oobeSystem configuration pass. Now that I have done all my customizing, I started wondering if I was really in Audit Mode because in the Sysprep Box that comes up gives me both options (audit and oobe). So I selected the Audit Mode from the Sysprep box, wanting to make sure I was in Audit Mode before I run oobe and generalize, and I am getting a fatal error in Sysprep. Should I not worry about being in Audit Mode and just run the oobe/generalize when I am ready? I just want to make sure I don't lose all my applications and customizations when I run oobe/generalize. I also stopped the Windows Media Players services and tried to go into Audit mode again, but still got the same fatal error.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated!

if you are in Audit Mode, sysprep.exe should open and appear on the desktop when the OS loads. Also Aero will be disabled, and the UAC will be disabled also. You can also access the Administrator account in C:\Users. And the Panther logs would be able to tell you what state the machine is in, but that could be a difficult read.

Also see: Windows Setup Installation Process

Also:
You need to check the registry:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\State
    for something other than IMAGE_STATE_COMPLETE
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Setup for AuditInProgress

Yes, every time I reboot the Sysprep box comes up, so I guess I will assume I am already in Audit Mode, and ready to OOBE/generalize.
Thanks for your help

I think I really created a big problem! I set the screen to lock after 15 minutes, and now the only account (Administrator) is locked. Is there a way I can get into it from safe mode? Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I have spent a lot of time on this master image and was almost ready to generalize it. Help!

You don't know the password?
Why don't you just enter shift+ctrl+f3 on boot as told on http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...w-create-general-system-image-audit-mode.html

I looked in the registry and it does not say 'System State Complete' but it does not say Audit in Progress either.
Under: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Setup for AuditInProgress" there is a value for OOBEInProgress and is set to 1 but I have not ever started OOBE. I don't see anything regarding Audit.
Under: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\State
for something other than IMAGE_STATE_COMPLETE" I see under Image_State : IMAGE_STATE_SPECIALIZE_RESEAL_TO_AUDIT

Am I in Audit Mode? I just want to make sure my customizations aren't going to be lost.
Thanks

When I selected Audit mode from the dropdown Sysprep box, it gave me a fatal error, but I just assumed I was in Audit Mode already because I had that option in the unattend.xml answer file. My registry settings were just a little different than the ones you had mentioned above. Should I change the registry settings to reflect what you told me for Audit In Progress? Please advise!
Thanks in advance
