Hi.
This morning I was using my computer and all was normal and I shut it down as I always do. Tonight I turned it on and when I logged in instead of saying the welcome message it said "preparing desktop" and after that I got to my desktop and my icons were gone, my background image was from factory settings and my softwares restored to default settings.
System Restore is off since the first day so no luck with that.

Look in eventlog to see what happened. All programs like ms office are gone? internet explorer is an older version?

Thank you for your reply.
There is no error in eventlog. Programs are executable, but restored to default settings.

Hi, I'm just posting to say that I'm having this exact same issue with my PC... I did a "System Restore" to an earlier point before this all happened but unfortunately that did nothing.

Will post if I ever find a solution to this issue.

It would seem that the issue for me was my "User Profile" was corrupt and I was being automatically logged onto a "Temporary User Profile".
This link was very helpful and its instructions have seemed to have fixed the problem for me.
