Do people actually like to double click?

I mostly try to avoid using mouse. I use keyboard shortcuts as much as i can.

I would always use the front edge, (mousedown), of the operation for controlling the UI elements, (change button state Etc), and the trailing edge (Mouseup), for the action as It did give the user an opt out to abort the operation.

not sure what the current API's require or allow, (it's been a while since I wrote any UI's :) ), but would think that the basic system is still in place

Single click for me. However, I have the option Underline icon titles only when I point at them checked.

At the end of the day, it's what you prefer and are used to. There is no right or wrong with this, it's just a matter of personal preference.

Just an idea :D

Replace the pinned items to the problematic apps with a batch file or script that adds an additional confirmation prompt before actually running the application :geek:

Tried single click many time and just hate it for some reason. When I work on others PCs with single click it drives me nuts and I have no real good reason for this. Just what I prefer I guess, it's not as bad on a desktop but on a laptop there is no way.

Sony used to ship all their PCs with single click enabled, it drove me crazy lol!

Always single click.

That and mouse speed are a few of the first things I do after an install.

+1 I use the fastest mouse speed.

I have a high end gaming mouse (got in on sale, or never would have bought it). 4000 dpi, supersensitive. If I set it to the fastest speed, moving the mouse a few millimeters would move it clear across both monitors.

Single click because I'm old I guess :p Fastest mouse speed because I'm old and I can't catch up with the aero display from my pinned taskbar items :p

I have a couple of hundred computers in my care and it seems most people just don't care enough to change the default so double click rules at the office but I have no trouble switching. I can even manage a left handed mouse and trackballs if I have to.

The thing that bugs me the most is the friggin' "Classic Start Menu" time to move into the 21st century people!

Reply to Peter re Click and Classic menues

I guess it is personal. But I've never experienced a mis click from single clicking in many many years.

It's easier to change these old habits than one might think. After all, many of us, who were willing to give some of the new ways of doing things in W7 a chance have already gotten used to new ways of doing things with W7. Just takes a few days of trying it and putting up with a little inconvenience until some new adaptation sets in, but one has to be motivated, I guess. But people have a natural tendency to resist change, I think.

I find it a little sad though, that the first thing a lot of people do is set up W7 gui to work just like Vista rather than giving the new ways of doing things more of a chance. Of course, for some folks, the old way really may be the better way, but I bet a lot of people would quickly grow to like some of the new ways if they just gave em a little more of a chance before reverting back to things like quick launch.

Sorry Im a double click, and has nothing to do with the "Classic" mode of operation.
I have just spend 5 days (Mon to Fri 4 hours daily using) on a WIN7 system And Im about to the following.... (this wont fix the WIN interface or layout (Librarys) who ever though that up wants shooting)to find a Classsic UI plugin.
If that dont work I will be moving 115 users to another O/S and Office Suite.
Multiplty me around the world and MS stand to loose alot of Money.

As for the XP compatiability sorry you still need to learn Win7 NOT good.

You stating windows 7 is not good, is an opinion. Try not to imply it as a fact.

In my opinion Windows 7 is the best OS out there, even over Leopard (yet to try Snow Leopard).

I tried single-click today, for a bit. I kept double clicking lol, went back to single click. :| I have a 4 button mouse (including the scroll wheel), the scroll wheel click acts as, well a middle click.

The side button opens the Snipping tool ;)

I hope you administer better than you write. :D

Libraries is the best thing they ever came up with.
But my grand father didn't like the change from DOS to Windows either. ;)

I think one of the cool things about technology is that it is always changing, advancing, improving (usually). I try not to resist change, but rather to embrace it.

/

NO that was NOT the point....
We (115 users I suppport) use a combination of XP (Home and PRO) and Vista Ult 64bit and Vista 32bit Prem, all of which have the option to revert to the Classsic interface which all users prefer.
I have 2 systems (2 months moving around) with Win7 and Office 7 for clients to use to get some feedback.
All have responded to NO to WIN7 and as for the Ribbon in Office 2007 the have also stated NO WAY.
These have NOT been 5 minute trails but have been in place for 1 week, with 2 different operaters, some professional secereties and just users.
If MS dont want to "listen" and im not alone read the forums and bloggs around 60% I would estimate.
Also how many VISTA seats were reverted to XP, this is another subject MS will NOT give out the numbers.
If I was an MS CEO I would start listening or WIN7 could end up like VISTA, and Microsoft?????......
