Do people actually like to double click?

On my machines, I always set my folder options to single click for opening items and whenever I encounter a computer that is not set up this way, I find it quite annoying. Do many people actually use and like the double click option? If so, why?

I use the double click when accessing folders. I have a tendency to single click on the wrong stuff sometimes (not caring enough maybe) and if I had it on single click, I wouldn't know where I should be going....

I see. Well, so far after many years, I've never gotten into trouble with single click enabled and I think it's saved me a lot of clicks over the years.

Yes, sometimes i guess... i whould'nt use it in my webbrowser or while playing a game, but browsing Windows Explorer its a pleasant feature (the only thing that is more important is the right click )

That's another thing that's just never happened to me with the single click option enabled, but I guess ymmv as they say.

I just have the thumb button on my mouse double click (the other thumb button is minimize). Best of both worlds.

I have tried to convert to single click with every version of windows that has provided the option. I know it makes sense to go that way, but I always revert to the double click for some reason - I guess it is just down to personal preference and what feels right to the individual

Nah, single-click has its own function, double-click another. Mis-clicks are annoying.

I don't know what the problem was with double clicking and my husband, but for some reason he would click the second time and I would have programs in places that they were not intended for .... It must have been a jerk (no pun intended) reaction to move the icon where ever the mouse ended up on the screen!

He can handle the one click much, much easier :roflmao:
BTW...Holding the left click button down while you're dragging and dropping does not open a program

I'm a double clicker, its how I learned to use the PC. Couldn't adjust to other ways.

It's easier to change these old habits than one might think. After all, many of us, who were willing to give some of the new ways of doing things in W7 a chance have already gotten used to new ways of doing things with W7. Just takes a few days of trying it and putting up with a little inconvenience until some new adaptation sets in, but one has to be motivated, I guess. But people have a natural tendency to resist change, I think.

I find it a little sad though, that the first thing a lot of people do is set up W7 gui to work just like Vista rather than giving the new ways of doing things more of a chance. Of course, for some folks, the old way really may be the better way, but I bet a lot of people would quickly grow to like some of the new ways if they just gave em a little more of a chance before reverting back to things like quick launch.

You keep repeating yourself. You never had problems with it. So noted.

I had many accidental clicks partly due to bad mice, and partly because I forgot I had single click activated.

I re-setup and repair about 100 computers a year, and so I never get really used to any single computer and forget if it's on single or double click.

And so I prefer double click, because a miss double click would only need another double click, oppose to having to wait for an app to open and to close it again.

Double-click here. i would find it quite difficult with one click because I'm use the rename file with a click then other... (also use F2 and right click too).

Double click. It was default, and I got used to it. I also set mine to super fast because I can click that fast. So mine is like twice as fast to open as default. Why not?

Anyways, I have found that there is a correlation to ease of clicking and age. Older people (no offense) tend to like single click, because they move slower and more deliberately (like my dad), and (some) have shaking hands that cannot click very fast or double click at all.
Younger people (like me, 17) click at a ridiculous rate. I also move through things so fast that if single click was on, I would have like 100 programs start opening as I navigate to a folder....

So for me it is more of a safety thing too.
