Chipset driver. Is it really necessary?

What do you guys think?

I'm currently using Windows 7's stock drivers for everything except for my Video Card.

Should I download/install the latest Chipset driver for my Motherboard?.

Thanks In advanced.

YES!! Here is a rough definition of what a chipset is and does..

Chipset:

A number of integrated circuits designed to perform one or more related functions. For example, one chipset may provide the basic functions of a modem while another provides the CPU functions for a computer. Newer chipsets generally include functions provided by two or more older chipsets. In some cases, older chipsets that required two or more physical chips can be replaced with a chipset on one chip. The term is often used to refer to the core functionality of a motherboard.

You always, always want the latest chipset drivers available for your motherboard....

That is not what I said at all ... what I said is ...

You may not need to install any of them... Go to the device driver page and look for any devices with a yellow triangle... note what they are, then download the coresponding driver from the mobo's website..let us know if you have any problems..

Follow what I set out for you and you will be ok..

Chipset driver is one of the most important drivers your computer needs to work properly. It kind of creates a base for all the other drivers to install and work properly.

I have some difficulties to understand your point. Downloading and installing the chipset drivers and then rebooting takes a couple of minutes, after that you can completely forget the whole thing. You could have done it already in half of the time it has taken to write your posts asking if it's necessary.

there's Intel 3/4/5 Chipset Drivers and Intel Chipset Drivers for Windows 7, I'm assuming to use the latter? Don't even know what Intel3/4/5 means >.<

ok I downloaded that but on the readme it says

1. The system must contain one of the following Intel Chipsets:
Auburndale Chipset Family
Arrandale Chipset Family
Havendale Chipset Family
Clarkdale Chipset Family

Mine isn't one of those, so what now?
