Users should be very careful where on the Speedfan page they get the download from. I linked someone to Speedfan last week and he wound up getting a virus from the "Download" link on the page. It was one of those banner ad downloads and he got an older version of Speedfan with malware in it.

It's a shame that such a good utility as Speedfan can be the victim of these spoof ads on its own download page. It just goes to show you that you need to be careful on the web.

I love Speedfan and will continue to recommend it, but with a caveat from now on: Don't click the banner ads!

I just use adblocker plus to block all annoying and dangerous ads.

I have no idea how to control my one and only case fan in my case and if I try, I'd be worried that I'll be screwing up my system

The developer must have subscribed to some banner ads to help him with his cost production too...

Yeah. I linked to the home page, and I think that guy I was trying to help clicked the banner ad on that page rather than going to the download link in the menu. My fault, really. I should have linked the download page.

This is why I always link them to the exact download where is starts automatically. This way it is not possible for them to click on the wrong thing.

Right click the correct download button on whatever the website is-copy link location.

No problem. It also gets the site compensated as well. Since directly uploading the file to this site would be a bad idea.

It is easy to do, just easy to forget about doing so.

A sad state of affairs, really. We use some form of AdBlock not just because ads are annoying (they are annoying), it's because ads have gotten legitimately dangerous.

Everytime I hear legit content creators ask for users to not use AdBlock, I understand where they are coming from, but even though the state of ads is no fault of their own AdBlocking will continue to be popular so long as the ads it is blocking are malvertisements.

Does it fix the crashing problem on systems with Intel Rapid Storage Technology?

NOPE! Still crashed my laptop (DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, iaStorA.sys)!

   Warning

This "bug" has appeared since version 4.49 and up. On those systems, users should use the /NOSCSISCAN and /NOSMARTSCAN switches.

I can fully understand sites having advertisements to earn money.

What I don't understand is why don't they make sure the adds don't have infection also.
I expect that who ever owns the site to double check often that any add on their site is clean.
