about to start the latest tasks but question from the previous one. when I ran cc cleaner I didn't "clean" the results. should I have?

No, your fine. You can uninstall it if you would like.

Once that is done, please Download DDS:

DDS.com

Save the file to your pc. Then open the dds icon to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop.
Include the contents of both logs in your next post by using the paperclip

Next thing I want you to do is this:

Make sure your data is backed up either on an external hard drive or somewhere else before proceeding: (Just a precaution)

1.) Please download and save the file TFC by Old Timer. Again, save the file to your downloads folder or your desktop. Do not run it.

2.) Close your programs before running this tool. TFC will close ALL open programs.

3.) Browse to where you saved tfc. Right click on tfc.exe and choose Run As Administrator.

4.) Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion. When it finishes it will say total files cleaned, and the start button will be grayed out. Click exit.
Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.

I automatically loaded my system specs. I assume you can see them on my profile or do I need to paste the results here?

I have an external hard drive but need to dig it out of some boxes somewhere so I can back up before the next step.

I see them now, thank you. Your specs are more then adulterate. Going from the ccleaner startup logs, I suggest uninstalling the following software

-Java
-Adobe reader
-itunes
-quicktime
-realplayer
-powerdvd

The top 2 are unnecessary anymore and carry huge security risks. Modern web browsers such as firefox and chrome have build in pdf readers, so there is no reason for adobe reader. Itunes is not needed anymore for syncing apple devices, and is a major resource hog. Realplayer is another bloatware program that windows media player does a much better job.
Power dvd is unnecessary when you have windows media player which plays dvd's.

yes, it looks for very specific rootkits, does not take long to scan.

Haven't downloaded TFC yet but installed a few of those apps. Kept iTunes for now.
It's still taking 15+ mins to boot. After rebooting a few times yesterday and today I got a blue screen that said something about there was an error detected and it had to shut down my PC. When my PC finally rebooted I got the message below. After selecting ok it went away and eventually rebooted.

1.) Can you please test your hard drive for errors? Either using disk check (do step 1 through 4, then 8) or the manufacturers utility?

2.) Also test your ram with windows memory check. Click start rb: then type memory, choose the top result-windows memory diagnostic. Then click restart now.

3.)Also, was it a BSOD you got? Sounds like it.

Yes it was a BSOD. Looked up examples of it on Google images and that is the error I rec'd a few times when restarting.

Did the disk check but it wouldn't run since pc was running so it was scheduled at restart. ran the memory test and the pc restarted.

I assume it did both on restart? Some scan was running.

question - step 1 of option 2 is to configure windows to create a dump file at BSOD. when you go to those instructions there are multipe options/settings - kernel dump, complete dump, small dump, no dump.

No problem. Do complete dump.

in that tut for configuring windows to record a dump. do step 1-4 then jump to 8.

I would do the grab all first. It seems to state that a complete dump might possibly overwrite the bsod already recorded.
