A very hard to find driver

I have a friends HP Pavilion g6 laptop with an i3 - 2.4Ghz and 4GB RAM running W7 64bit Home version.

Now she has been given this machine by a friend and couldn't get into it (admin login) and asked me to take a look at it.
I got into the machine by doing a system restore to a date about 4 months ago and low and behold I had admin rights.
So far so good until it came to tidying it up and I have managed to clear a heap of rubbish off this machine including 1400 malwares MBAM found and another 122 that SAS found. CCleaner took care of the temp stuff and I thought I was home and hosed until I came to installing MSE on the machine after getting rid of the Norton which I was thinking was slowing the downloads via IE.
Problem is she uses a Sierra Aircard adaptor and the only thing I can find is the firmware for it and so I looked for the Atheros AR9845 driver for the machine but with no luck.
Does anyone know of where I can find this driver as I am sure it needs updating as the downloads like MSE take up to and more than two hours.
I am thinking this is the problem too because I tried my own 4G adaptor on it and with the same result dreadfully long downloads including the Windows updates. Most of the stuff I have installed is via a USB stick where I can as I said the downloads are extremely slow and some like MSE updates failed every time I tried it.
The machine in every other way responds quite quickly it is just the downloads.
I am going home tomorrow and I shall hook it up to a cable connection but if I can find a site for the Atheros driver it would be good to fix it then.
I have suggested she gets a better adaptor because the Sierra one I think is really pathetic and it also gets VERY hot when used.

Yes Colin that is what is shown in device manager. The site looks familiar (.cz) as one I got onto but it looked such a shambles of references I went looking elsewhere.

The other device I mentioned I have since spoken to the owner and she is going to Telstra to get something different as it is a real worry re the heat and extremely slow download rate/s.

PS Just looked again and I shall check tomorrow when I hook up the machine to the Ethernet cable as the driver I was linking is a ??PCi one??

John, can you post the msinfo32.nfo mate so we can have a look at what programs are installed? It may be a conflict or another program limiting the download speed. I know ASUS iNetwork Control bloatware does it so maybe other programs are capable of capping download speeds. Worth a look even if it's an outside chance.

Thanks for the replies everyone and first up Colin I must apologise for getting the driver number very wrong - put it down to being very frustrated at the time (in pic).
Do you think I should give that driver a brl now??

Cannot attach the msinfo as requested Gav - I don't know why I saved it as a doc to desktop and I can only think it is too large to attach. I think I may have to zip it somehow though I ma pretty hopeless at doing that but will try.

Brian have done all the things in that article - am on the Ethernet cable at home at the moment and the thing is flying.

However I still think she should get another adapter because of the heat generated

Yep that's right mate but it is the coverage out here that is a real problem still some places there is none at all and at best 3G and if you get real lucky 4G. It is a pretty pathetic set up considering the money we pay for the service and that the technology is now quite advanced.

Trying the zip again. No it will not attach anything in doc form. The doc is saved as an Office 2010 docx so I am really up the creek without a you know what.

Any suggestions on how to attach the msinfo please??

Yes Brian it isn't the fastest although my Toshiba does not too poorly on it and is why I think the HP machine needs the driver for the wifi.

Thing is the link for Atheros is littered with links and a lot of them to Driver update software that is really quite annoying why the heck I cannot just Google for that driver and find it on the Qualcomm site is getting very tedious.

These are usually good instructions for the msinfo John,

To suggest the right steps, we need to see some more files. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.

1. Click on the start button
2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

I don't think your atheros driver is that old,

athrx.sys (10.0.0.67

You can try the one from maxie's link if you want, but it is a Version 9.

I'm not convinced the driver is the problem here to be honest, I think something else is it at play. I could be completely wrong though.
