I would like it if someone could tell me why I can't change my BIOS to AHCI and plug in my SSD and install 7. Then change the sata cable back to my mechanical drive and change the BIOS back to IDE.
After I do that the system doesn't like to boot to the mechanical drive once I do this. I believe that it has something to do with changing the ID of the HD. At times looking in the BIOS there is NO HD shown then on repeated attempts it eventually locates the mechanical drive and it works again. I was trying to avoid hosing the system I have and working on the SSD install a little at a time.
I also considered installing an image of my 7 system onto the SSD with AHCI enabled, but apparently this won't work either.
