How to use AdWCleaner?

Can someone explain to me whats the proper way to use this? When i click scan, all i see is waiting and pending for a very long time and it doesn't seem to do anythings. Its on the services tab. Am i suppose to click on each tab such as services, folders, files and all the other ones and do it individually? Reason i ask this is b/c when i clicked on a few of them, it does seem to show progress and scan something. When i just click scan while its on services, it doesn't seem to do anything at all.

I can click on clean, report and uninstall. And each time this happens i just click clean and then okay then computer reboots. Is the scan still not done? Its on the SERVICES TAB.

I haven't used the program so can't comment in depth. Have you tried to to scan in Safe mode

Read these instructions. ADWCleaner is step #6 on the recipe.

You click on the SCAN button and wait for it to finish its scan process. When it's finished, you can click on each of the tabs below to see what it found. You un-check things you don't want it to blow away when you finally push the CLEAN button to remove everything it found that you did not "save" by un-checking.

If you clicked "clean" and rebooted, it removed everything it found.

Including stuff you maybe didn't want it to remove.

You need to check the tabs as mentioned by DSPerber BEFORE clicking "clean" to avoid removing something you want to keep.

Yes i clicked clean and reboot but it seems to be a very fast process which is why im confused.


So during the entire time, the tab is suppose to be at services and im not suppose to go to each tab? Thing is if true, why do i go to other tables indivdiually and there is something shown each time then...

It is a very fast process.

The tabs are services, folders, files, shortcuts, scheduled tasks, etc,

Below the scan button.

You scan, which should finish in less than a minute.

Then you look at the tabs and see what the scan found in each category.

You uncheck the ones in each tab that you DON'T want to remove.

When you finish going through all the tabs, you use the "clean" button.

Some of the tabs may show nothing--which means that the scan found nothing in that category. So you go to the next tab and check it.

I rarely use the program and am not an authority.

But a primary rule in life as well as computing is "when in doubt, don't".

If you don't know what something is or means, bypass it. Leave it alone. Don't "clean" it.

Particularly when you've given no reason to believe you have to use AdwCleaner at all.

If you are obsessive and can't help yourself, then just let it clean everything. I'd guess that's what most do. After all, what can it hurt? Said the spider to the fly.

So, maybe it found nothing to delete. If you're clean, it wouldn't find anything.

If the SCAN has finished, and then one by one you click each tab and see nothing listed, then you're in great shape already and there's nothing further for ADWCleaner to remove.

Do you know how i would be able to use adwcleaner on my usb drive? I used microsoft essentials and superantisoftware on it but how do i use adwcleaner to check my usb? Or i cannot do this?

No you cannot. Adwcleaner would really have not much purpose scanning it anyway. Most infections to usb devices are: trojans, viruses, worms.

AdwCleaner is a program that searches for and deletes Adware, Toolbars, Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP), and browser Hijackers from your computer. By using AdwCleaner you can easily remove many of these types of programs for a better user experience on your computer and while browsing the web.

If you want to scan your usb, try malwarebytes or another antivirus/antimalware program.

You seem almost disappointed Adwcleaner didn't find anything :/

But yes you can use Superantispyware and or Malwarebytes to scan flash media devices,
Each has the options to add the scans to the right click context menu for quick access to either,
