I believe the location is "C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack"; I don't use it, so this is from memory.

I use Tweaking Registry Backup from Tweaking.com instead, which is free and superior in my opinion.

drugo in all your threads you are to look in, change, copy paste or something in the registry.

If you could tell us what problem you have and are trying to fix we might be able to help.

One does not poke around in the registry because they can't find nothing else to do. You have a reason, could you explain.

If your not having problems with your system I suggest leaving the registry alone.

A lot of us are not on the same step in time based on a lot of variables... But, once you get network file sharing working, installed the standard user apps, get the shared password lockers running & get backups and recovery options working, then we start thinking about fast pathing recovery.

Registry changes or corruption is one of the weak points that has been easier to deal with! In XP we would copy the Repair directory to another location on the hard drive as a backup process and then cascade 7 day of copies into a backup drive per user. Sure works nice, can be automated, and saves a lot of time when needed!

The Win7 C:\Windows\System32\Config looks like it has hive files in it when you browse there with Explorer, but, when I try to back up the hive that looks like it is there, my current App says the directory is empty.

Can you help with the real location of the files?

Online research looks good... Can you tell me which version you are using, how long ago you downloaded it and how it has worked out for you?

Try doing it in Safe Mode. Maybe they are not open then.

"Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery Tells how to restore registry"

Thanks, I went through that article and many others, saved links to the ones that made sense, but, have not written my prototype document yet.

The comments that have been made about most were basically, "Yeah, but users has lost some things here!"

I'm hoping to restore the hive and userprofile if I can within the framework of the last day or two.

The approach you are referencing seems like the right thing to do if the stuff in config has been trashed and there are no backups.

Have you used this process and how did it work out for you?
