Solved How to remove all Office but starter?

I have this pay Office installed, with which M$ managed to hose me of about 60$, and now I want to remove it so it'll stop interfering with my Office Starter installation. Unfortunately, I don't know which items to remove from the Control Panel. The Offices I have in the Control Panel:

• 365
• Click-to-Run 2010
• PowerPoint Viewer 2007
• Starter 2010

Which do I remove?
After that, I might need help getting documents to default to the Starter. For instance, when I download a Word document, I can't figure out how to get it to start the Starter Word.

Do you have a reinstall copy of Office Starter 2010. The only way that I can see is to uninstall all your versions of Office, then reinstall Office Starter. If you don't have a copy of Starter then I think you will have to select one of the others & just install it only.
Having multiple copies of Office can cause conflicts, particularly as these are the same version.
Before you do any uninstalling, copy all your documents etc. to a flash stick or similar, so you don't lose those.
Removing all traces of Office when uninstalling can be a problem, so post back if you have a problem.

Ugh! No, I don't have Starter install disks. It came w/the laptop I bought. I don't feel comfortable playing Russian Roulette w/the Control Panel.

From what I have been able to find out, is that if you uninstall the other versions of Office & not Office Starter then it wont work as parts that are needed get removed when the others are uninstalled.

So it looks like you will either have to leave things as they are, or uninstall all & then reinstall one that you have a copy of & the activation code for.

In that case, can someone tell me how to get the Starter stuff back into context menus and the like? When I select "Open With..." on a *.doc* file it doesn't offer Word Starter; it just offers the pay one, then tells me to buy a subscription! I have a similar problem when I want Firefox to open a document that it downloaded.

According to your first post you have Office 2010 Click to Run installed, so you should have an activation code for that & it should be working.
If you have Office 2010 Click to Run & it's activation code why couldn't you uninstall all the Office programs & then just reinstall it & forget about Office Starter.
I am using Office 2013 Pro Click to Run & I have an activation code & the installation DVD, although most of if gets downloaded & installed from the web. It was a once only purchase so there is no ongoing subscription to pay.

If Office Starter cam with the computer it most likely was a trial version and it's time is up for the trial. You will have to buy a key to upgrade.

The other Office products from Microsoft have to have a paid for activation Key to continue to work.

If you have a proper paid for activation key their should not be a problem installing one of the Microsoft products and activating it after you remove all the other Office products.

If you are trying to use Microsoft Office without a activation key it is not going to work.

Office 2010 Click to Run should be a complete program that is self contained & does not require any other Office program for it to work.
If you have a legal copy of Office 2010 Click to Run you should have an activation code. If you have an activation code you can download it & install it it, or you may have the installation DVD.

If you have a legal copy of Office 2010 Click to Run you would have had to buy it, either by downloading it or buying the DVD. if you downloaded it from Microsoft you would have paid for it & they would have sent you the activation code by email.

If you did not do that then it is probably not legal. Office 365 is a subscription program & requires periodic payments to keep it working.

Your Office Starter would have come with your computer & it would have been preloaded & already activated.

If you had Office Starter 2010 on your computer when you got it, why did you install all the other Office programs that you listed in your first post.

As far as I know Office 2010 Click to Run is not a subscription program. Office 365 is a subscription program.

I installed the subscription crap for 2 reasons:

1. My wife needed to make PowerPoints. So I subscribed for their 30-day free trial then cancelled after a couple of weeks.
2. God needed to teach me a lesson about giving my credit card number to M$!

But why is academic. What matters is that I want Starter to work the same way it always did for the first 5 years.
I used that Belarc thing to find the activation code, and under "Software Licenses" the only "Office" it had was 365.

No, I'm trying to prevent the Office I cannot legally use from getting all up in my face, and have the Starter one work the same way it always did.
