New install on a new 1Tb hard drive straight out of the wrapping. Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit, OEM DVD bought from Amazon. The internet icon has a red cross on it, meaning no connection, and several re-boots hasn't cured it. But there is nothing wrong with my connection. I have a second hard drive which if I boot from it I connect instantly. How can I resolve this?

Did you install the drivers using a driver disc from whatever brand of computer you have? If you did a clean install, but did not insert said disc (assuming you have one) you may have to go to the companies website and manually download (to a zip drive or what have you) and install the driver(s)

I bought my current laptop (just a dell shell with the Mobo, no hard drive or RAM) but it had no disc only the installation disc, so after I put it all together, I had to use my service tag number and grab the updated drivers from the site

Ah, that did the trick. I'd forgotten I even had a disk. Had to search for it, but I'm up and running now. Thanks.
