Ya i was excited for 10, now I am leaning more towards linux. It is tempting to be free though. I will probably get it, throw it on a vm and leave it there. Then stay on 7 for a bit longer and leave.

We shall see what happens!

There are unfortunately things that don't run on Linux such as Photoshop & Coreldraw. The alternative of the "forbidden fruit" doesn't really appeal.

Yes Joan. I suppose compared to W8 it's not bad but so far no patch on W7. I don't particularly want to be nagged by Cortana, I don't game and holograms WTF.

Holograms is way above my paycheck.
Cortana is a maybe. Cortana gives information on voice request but that website information comes from places Microsoft has chosen. That may or may not be the places I would of chosen. So she is a maybe.

I would like to see a comparative list of what W-10 can do for me compared to W-7.

I don't want to buy and learn a new system just because it's new.
I don't want of have to add 3rd party programs or anybodies apps to make it work properly.
I want it to add to my computer enjoyment, usability and security.

I haven't give up on W-10 yet.
I just haven't seen so far any added things that have any usefulness for me. Being able to share photos with a cell phone somewhere in the world while flying upside down at 30,000 feet is not something I need or want. I think one can get my drift.

I understand that my computing demands are not the same as many others because mine are pretty basic. If I had the money the Holograms would be of interest.

I will keep testing W-10 just to see what I can find to bring joy to my computing experience.

Right now 10tp is sitting on my old laptops hdd so it's not wasting any space on a ssd
I personally can't do vm 64 bit although I could use hyper-v in 8.1 but then I would have to look at that ugly toad so that's out,
On it's own drive is best anyway it's just as easy to get rid of than a vm plus I can use the native 64 bit instead of a 32 bit VMware.
I've already left all of the feed back I can stand too and read more than that.
Awesome is like I expected a Microsoft exaggeration.

Windows 7 caused a good lot of BSODs ... but we never revoked our faith on it. There is nothing in 10 that I can readily reject it. Yes, it may be a fact of debate that actually it is how much advanced from 7, but it has a lot of good features of the previous windows, including XP.

As far as I can say about me, I am using 10 and will continue with it, unless I understand that 7 can give me more.

I also have been using 10 exclusively for four months to support 7. I never went back to 7 and finally deleted it. I still consider myself a strong Windows 7 supporter but will always go with best performance.

Just to see if I was missing any performance increment, I clean installed 9926 tonight in about 30 minutes total. It seems exactly as fast as Upgraded 9876.

I'm even swallowing the creeping Start Menu with large Live Tiles showing me News, Weather, Mail and Calendar. It's only when it becomes a wall and not a fly-out that it breaks with a billion customers. Imagine that something so seemingly small ruined Windows 8. But what a great rebound!

When I started with 7, I was very unhappy with the "within the box" all programs (I did not use Vista). But I got habituated. But, the links were useful in the start menu. I want to believe that the Weather, Food and Drink, Health and Fitness etc will be useful for some people, but not for me. Very soon there will be a way to have those old links back in the start menu by the third party developers who think in our way.

I can't say there's anything in 10 that benefits me more than 7 does,
Start menu is too freaking large all apps is way to long
Search box is outside the start menu and again is too freaking large
Suggestions in the search are annoying and can not remove
Bing image of the day is unwanted and again can not be removed
I'm not interested in Cortana or any gaming benefits 10 might have
Unwanted apps are not removed when uninstalled
Settings are still not all listed in control panel
Group policy seems to be useless.

Adding bing.com http and https to restricted sites list does nothing.

Bear you seem like you might benefit from linux, and as stated you could use windows in a vm for anything it could not run itself. (After windows 7 ends support in 2020)

You could always run linux as the core, and use windows in a vm for windows programs for things wine cannot run.

Photoshop is heavy on resources particularly graphics. I'm not sure a VM would be up to it. I can't even run the 3D parts of it on my laptop natively.

PS CC runs fine on VM for me but I have to admit my needs are basic image editing, can't create anything like you geeks.

Anyway, here's PhotoShop CC running on Windows 7 Ultimate Hyper-V virtual machine on Windows 10, I use Remote Desktop to connect to it to fully utilize the host's resources. I had to create this VM only because PS CC does not install on Windows 10 yet and all my real physical machines run Windows 10 nowadays.

Notice that as the Hyper-V Manager shows, the vm only uses less than half of the 3 GB RAM I have assigned to it.

Mä antaisin paikkani taivaassa kunnon saunasta, parista Koffin kolmosesta ja kiukaalla kuumennetusta HK:n Sinisestä Auran väkevän sinapin kanssa!




Boris, you've got no idea how jealous I am! These Germans do not understand anything about the sauna, I have been banned from a few nearby public saunas for various reasons, such as throwing water on the stones or turning the thermostat without permission to max it could go, 65°C(*) because reportedly sauna ovens could be damaged when they are heated too hot thus I had risked the public safety, and so on.

I'd give my place in heaven for a few hours of decent sauna, a couple of Koff's lager and HK Blue sausages heated on sauna oven stones with Aura's extra strong mustard!


(*) = 65°C is about 150°F, a real sauna must of course be around 100°C or 210 °F. Tho whole idea of sauna is to get steam by throwing water to hot stones.

Kado, I want to stress the fact that my work with PS on a vm is quite light, just fixing the colors and minor editing. I have no idea how it works for more resource intense work.
