There is little need to worry about running out of disc space in a year or so, consider the fact that you'll likely have upgraded your hard drive by that time.
I do not think Windows 7 will ever make it to Service Pack 2 or 3 honestly, its stable and fast as it is. Maybe Service Pack 1 (that is a bit maybe).

Since then 20gb will be enough...
The 8.6 gb size surprised me when I disabled pagefile,etc.
Normally how large will a SP be after install?(not the setup.exe) 1.5 gb?
Would also depend if you keep the service pack rollback stuff which allows you to uninstall. That is what takes all the space.
I hope that you have at least 4-6gb of ram installed with no pagefile enabled..
